How to choose a 50-inch TV on Prime Day

With any TV purchase, you need to consider two things first of all — your budget and what size TV you should buy. These days, a 50-inch TV is on the smaller end of the scale, but it’s perfect for your bedroom, entertaining your kids, or in a den or study. Our 4K TV buying guide goes into more depth, but essentially it’s important to think about what brand you can afford. The best TV brands are a great starting point. Samsung, LG, and Sony won’t do you wrong, if you can afford it.

It’s also a good idea to consider the differences between QLED and OLED TVs if you want something more high-end than a 4K TV. If you’re keeping costs down, don’t worry about it, but if you want cinematic-level quality, pay the extra for OLED or QLED.

How we chose these 50-inch TV Prime Day deals

When it comes to deals, we know what we’re talking about. We spend our days seeking out the best deals so we know the difference between an incremental discount and one that you should rush to take advantage of. We also know all about what constitutes one of the best TVs, so we can recommend TVs based on picture quality and how well they operate.

A good deal is only a good deal if it’s on a product you want to own. That’s why we use our expert knowledge in TVs and combine it with the deals we find. We don’t include any deals that we wouldn’t recommend to our friends and family. These are the deals that tempt us personally, so you can be rest assured they’re great value.

Sansui 55-inch OLED TV on wall.

Update 10/24/24: This marks the beginning of our coverage of OLED TV deals for Black Friday 2024 (besides what we've already covered in our other early Black Friday TV deals coverage) and so far, we like what we see. While I personally would have like to have found something cheaper than $700 for our low end, there weren't any that we could really recommend at this time. At the same time, there were massive savings on TVs that we consider to be the best of the best going on already. This space will be exciting to see develop in real time as we get closer to "real" Black Friday deals in late November.

What that means for you, is that you can start shopping great Black Friday deals now. We've already collected fantastic Black Friday Apple Watch deals, Black Friday gaming laptop deals, and (of course) Black Friday TV deals. Here, we're focused on OLED TVs, and LG, Sony, and Samsung are really stepping up to the plate, especially for this early in the season. In reality, there is no reason to wait if you see a deal you like on a TV you've been wanting.
