Amazon reportedly prepping 4K streaming for tentative October launch

Samsung UHD 4K HU9000 Series Smart TV
While Netflix is currently the top dog of 4K streaming, Amazon is set to begin piping its own 4K streams as early as October of this year. That’s according to a press release in which, interestingly enough, Samsung revealed the information. Samsung announced this morning that its 2014 smart UHD 4K TV line will be able to support Amazon’s Prime Instant Video Ultra-HD streaming service when it launches in October.

Last week the marketing director for the online retail giant’s Prime Instant Video service confirmed that Amazon has a team specifically dedicated to preparing and releasing 4K content this year and beyond. He didn’t, however, give any indication as to when the high-resolution video would be made available. Additionally, Amazon Studios has already announced its plans to shoot each of its original series in 4K resolution from here on out.

As the industry prepares for an inevitable rollover to the higher resolution that will expand exponentially within the next few years, many are choosing to additionally film movies and TV in UHD, though exactly how it will be distributed is still being determined. A recent study predicts that 4K televisions will trace a popularity/price trajectory similar to that of HDTVs over the last 15-year period – except 4K panels will become just as ubiquitous in 10-12 years, instead.

Amazon’s move into 4K territory will clearly benefit Samsung, too. While Netflix has managed to integrate 4K streams of its original series mainstays Breaking Bad and House of Cards online this year, we’ve yet to see anything else materialize for Netflix in the new format. With a serious lack of available 4K content currently, there’s not much of an incentive right now for most viewers to shell out for a screen that supports the resolution – especially considering prices for UHD/4K TVs are often as much as double that of their 1080p HD counterparts. Samsung’s move to support streaming of 4K offerings from Amazon is an initial step toward heightening awareness of and building buzz for the approaching 4K tide.

Save $200 on this 75-inch Vizio QLED 4K TV at Walmart
Vizio 2023 M-series TV hanging on a wall.

Usually when we find great deals on TVs, they aren't this year's model. But that isn't always true. Today, we found a 75-inch Vizio MQ6 QLED 4K TV going for $200 off. At an original price of $898, and a sale price of $698, that makes it nearly (but not quite) 25% off. Did something go wrong? Do the people hate this TV? Apparently not, as the TV is incredibly highly reviewed by Walmart customers. (This is a Walmart deal, so go ahead and tap the button below to see for yourself.) Could it really be that Walmart is just this generous, this early? Read on to find out more about one of the quickest TV deals we're seeing right now, a bit about the QLED technology behind it, and why you should buy it.

Why you should buy a 75-inch Vizio MQ6 QLED 4K TV
Walmart wants you to see the word "NEW" in big letters when you see this TV. So, what are we seeing on this TV that warrants the capital letters? Well, for a TV in this price range, and comparing it to other members of the best TVs like it that are slightly older, we can find some contrasts. For example, the 75-inch Vizio MQ6 QLED 4K TV emphasizes Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. It's a lightning fast internet protocol that isn't exactly new, but about to become increasingly useful as more and more Wi-Fi 6 routers are being used and internet connections are at the speed to support it. Other improvements include the 'ThinFrame Design' a clear homage to Samsung's The Frame. Beyond that, expect many of the great things you would from any 4K TV, including Bluetooth headphone support, free viewing options, and a 60Hz refresh rate.

Time is running out to get this 50-inch 4K TV for $200 at Amazon
Pioneer 50-inch 4K Smart Fire TV on a white background displaying its smart TV interface.

There aren't many hours left to check out the Prime Day deals but there's still enough time to buy one of the cheapest Prime Day TV deals we've seen throughout the sales event. That deal is being able to buy a Pioneer 50-inch 4K TV for just $160, saving you a hefty 50% or $160 off the regular price of $320. It's not often we see a TV as cheap as this, especially when it's 4K and a good size for most living rooms. If you're in need of a cheap TV, this is a great option to pursue. However, you really don't have long to buy it as Prime Day ends today. We're talking mere hours to go. You've got time to check out what we know about the TV but from there, make a purchase quickly if it's the one for you. You'll hate it if you miss out on a TV at 50% off.

Why you should buy the Pioneer 50-inch 4K TV
Pioneer may not be one of the best TV brands around but it's well-established and not exactly a no-name choice. No one is expecting one of the best TVs when they're paying $150 but this one covers all the basics and a little more too. For instance, besides its 4K resolution, it also has Dolby Vision support so you get sharper contrast and better picture quality than ones that don't support it. It's those kind of things that soon add up.
