New Apple tvOS finally brings comfort of iOS to your TV

While the headline attractions at Apple’s most recent event were the 13-inch iPad Pro and iPhone 6S, the biggest leap forward announced at Apple’s latest keynote was the new and improved Apple TV. Boasting a slightly taller form factor and a completely redesigned touch remote, this new piece of home theater hardware attempts to bridge the gap between iOS and your TV.

With tvOS, a completely new operating system working at the core of the device, the new user interface and app store will be a welcoming sight to users. Siri is at the heart of the new Apple TV. Voice search works across most of the video streaming apps available, and you can ask Siri a series of questions to narrow the results.

Apple will now let you fix your own iPhone in win for right-to-repair campaigners

Apple will finally let iPhone users repair their own iPhones, the company announced this week. It will start this effort with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series, with an expansion to older iPhones and more of its product lines in the near future. Dubbed Self Service Repair, it is aimed at those customers who have the experience, skills, and willingness to get hands-on with product repairs. The company will send (or rather, sell) people parts, tools, and a manual in what is a huge win for right-to-repair campaigners.

The new Apple Self Service Repair Online Store will offer more than 200 individual parts and tools for sale. Apple also noted that these customers who get access to the parts, tools, and manuals join a club of more than 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers and 2,800 Independent Repair Providers.

iPhone owners should update to iOS 15.0.2 right now

Apple is advising iPhone owners to download its latest update to iOS and iPadOS 15 as it includes an important security patch as well as a number of bug fixes.

Made available on Monday, October 11, iOS and iPadOS 15.0.2 addresses an issue that could allow nefarious apps “to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.” In other words, it offers a way for a hacker to take control of your iDevice.

Apple’s iPhone 13 and iPad Mini are facing more display and touch problems

Apple's new iPhone 13 is in its second week of release, but early adopters are already reporting critical issues with the company's displays. Some have noted that the system intermittently is unresponsive to touch. This comes after the company's new iPad Mini was criticized for experiencing an issue colloquially referred to as jelly scrolling.

The more major issue that affects the new iPhone 13 and 13 Pro are intermittent touch issues. From reports, this happens when the iPhone 13 doesn't register swipes or taps on the display 100% of the time. It affects everything from using the phone normally to tap-to-wake to playing games and switching apps. It isn't consistent, so it may not be immediately obvious to some iPhone 13 owners. It's also not clear whether this is a hardware fault or a bug in the new iOS 15 update. There are even reports of it applying to older iPhones as well on social media platforms and support forums.
