Audio-Technica Debuts Eight New Headphones

Audio-Technica Debuts Eight New Headphones

Premium audio outfit Audio-Technica significantly expanded its headphone line-up on Monday with the release of eight new models. Spanning a range of styles and prices, the new headphones all adopt A-T’s typically high-quality drivers, and start at $60 and up.

The newest batch of headphones represent three different styles: the ATH-SQ5A, ATH-CK6A,and ATH-CKM50A take on the standard over-ear form factor, the ATH-CK6A, ATH-CKM50Aand ATH-CK7A adopt the popular in-ear earbud model, and the ATH-ON3A, ATH-ES3A, ATH-FC700A and ATH-ES7 fit over the ear.

According to A-T, all models deliver deeper bass, a detailed, accurate midrange, extended treble, and outstanding dynamic range and impact, as well as extremely high efficiency for sources (like MP3 players) that don’t necessarily deliver strong output.

The most expensive pick from the new line-up: the $170 ATH-CK7A in-ear headphones, which use rare-earth drivers and titanium construction for weight savings and durability.

All models are available immediately, for between $60 and $170.

Sonos’ new Era 100 and Era 300 wireless speakers go all-in on spatial audio and Bluetooth
Sonos Era 300 and Era 100 side by side.

Sonos has officially unveiled two new wireless smart speakers -- the $249 Sonos Era 100, and the $449 Sonos Era 300. While the Era 100 is effectively a new version of the aging Sonos One, which it replaces, the Era 300 is an entirely new type of speaker for the company, with six drivers (including an up-firing tweeter) and compatibility with spatial audio formats like Dolby Atmos.

The leaks pretty much nailed it. Both speakers will be available on March 28 in 26 countries including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, and Australia, with preorders beginning March 7.

OnePlus Buds Pro 2 to support Android’s new spatial audio feature
The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 in black and green.

OnePlus has already let it be known that its next wireless earbuds, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2, are just around the corner. The new buds, as well as the OnePlus 11 smartphone, will officially launch at the OnePlus Cloud 11 event on February 7, 2023. But until now, we've been in the dark on almost all of the details. And while we still don't know key facts like pricing and battery life, OnePlus has announced that the new noise-canceling buds will be among the first to support Android 13's spatial audio feature.

OnePlus says the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 -- the successors to the OnePlus Buds Pro -- will "set a new standard for spatial audio stability and compatibility" when they launch outside China on February 7, 2023. The feature will work with audio that is spatial-ready, like Dolby Atmos Music, but OnePlus is also integrating the ability to up-mix standard two-channel stereo into a virtualized spatial presentation.

CES 2023: Audio-Technica adds a mic to its iconic M50x headphones to target creators
The Audio-Technica M50xSTS headset on a table.

Audio-Technica showed live streamers and content creators that it's been thinking about them at CES 2023, today unveiling StreamSet, two new models of wired streaming headsets based on the iconic M50x professional monitor headphones that come with the added bonus of a built-in condenser microphone.

Dubbed by Audio-Technica as the "world's first streaming headsets," two models are available, and unlike the M50x, they're both hard-wired. The analog ATH-M50xSTS comes with a two-meter cable with a 3.5mm headphone input (and a 1/4-inch adapter, too), plus a 3-pin XLR for connecting the mic to a mixer or compatible audio interface. The digital ATH-M50xSTS-USB, as its name implies, has a USB-A cable (also two-meters in length) with a USB-C adapter for direct connectivity to computers. The STS-USB model has a built-in digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with a sampling rate of up to 24-bit/96 kHz, and a feature that lets you hear your vocals in the headset and control the volume with a dial that sits on the earcup. Otherwise, both models are pretty much the same.
