Epson Launches Two All-in-One Projectors

Epson Launches Two All-in-One Projectors

If you can’t quite decide which room in your house you would like to watch movies in, Epson has a new solution that should be a lot easier than sliding a TV from room to room every Saturday night. The company’s new MovieMate 50 and 72 projectors pack everything you need for a movie, including a DVD player, speakers and projector, into one portable unit.

The MovieMate 50 places emphasis on ease of transport. Epson was able to trim its footprint to 63 percent less than previous generations of MovieMate projectors’, and it weighs in at 8.3 pounds. Two 8W speakers provide audio while the projector’s native resolution of 480p matches DVDs to eliminate any scaling.

The MovieMate 72 steps consumers up to high-def video. In fact, Epson claims the it will be the first all-in-one projector to offer native 720p resolution. The built-in DVD player even upscales DVDs to match. Four 5W speakers provide audio. The projector also includes a swiveling base for loading DVDs, HDMI inputs, and a lens that can shift to allow for off-center projection.

Although Epson didn’t announce when the projectors would be available, the company did provide estimated street prices. The MovieMate 50 will likely sell for $799.99, while the high-def MovieMate 72 will go for $1,199.99.

Best mockumentary movies of all time
Christopher Guest in This Is Spinal Tap.

Documentary films, when done well, are compelling and educational probes into the people, places, cultures, and human conditions around us, revealing often harsh or revelatory truths many of us were blind to prior. But you know what's way, way funnier? Films that make fun of documentaries, turning the whole genre on its head. We're speaking, of course, of mockumentaries. Satirizing such topics as serial killers, "forgotten" filmmakers, epic hair-rock bands, and even the undead, mockumentaries allow filmmakers to not only take aim at their subjects but take a shot at the documentary genre itself. As far back as 1938, Orson Welles' fake news broadcast gone wrong, War of the Worlds, is considered to be one of the first examples of a mockumentary, while nearly 45 years later, the genre would earn its seal of authenticity with Christopher Guest and Rob Reiner's game-changing This Is Spinal Tap. Things have obviously exploded from there, so we've put together this list of the best mockumentary films of all time, so you can explore the genre yourself.

The best movie soundtracks of all time
John Williams orchestra

Movies are not just about what you see onscreen. The auditory component of many cinema classics is just as integral (if not more) than the visual pastiche of images that flood your local theater's screens. Effective sound design is a crucial component, but our focus today is the scores and soundtracks of Hollywood's finest. Think of how many times you've walked out of memorable movies. You may find yourself humming the melodies from several key scenes in the flick, whether you intended to or not. Movie music has a way of working itself into your mind, acting as a spiritual counterpart to the images of the silver screen.

To celebrate these cinematic musical masterpieces, we've put together a list of our favorite film soundtracks, separated by scores and soundtrack compilations, in no particular order. Whether you're a lover of the purpose-composed epics that propel your favorite films' plot points, or a fan of the perfectly assembled playlist that colors a film's overall tone, you'll find something to love below.
