Fox Reality, a U.S. cable channel featuring unscripted programming under an “All Reality, All the Time” slogan, has launched Reality Remix Online, which the network claims is an industry first for offering streaming video of a daily reality television program.
Fox Reality launched in May 2005 and offers both U.S. and International reality programming, specials, and some original programming. Its show “Reality Remix” essentially follows the format of a half-hour entertainment news program, covering reality shows and unscripted programming on a variety o television networks, including reviews, recaps, contestant interviews, and teasers of upcoming episodes. “Reality Remix” is hosted by former MTV VJ Kennedy.
According to Fox, episodes will be available online at 8 P.M. Eastern (5 P.M.) Pacific after the show’s daily airing on the Fox Reality channel.
The move to post episodes online is seen as a way to increase the profile the Fox Reality channel, which is competing for channel space in an increasingly-tight basic and expanded cable and satellite market. Currently, Fox Reality is accessible to approximately 18 million households, and Fox claims the network is on pace to reach 20 million homes in its first year. Last August, Nielsen Media Research estimated there are more than 110 million U.S. television households.
