JBL marks 70 years of stellar sound with Platinum Everest Elite 700 headphones

Chances are good that if you’ve ever spent some time looking at headphones or speakers, the JBL name is familiar to you. What you might not be aware of is just how long the company has been around. This year marks the JBL brand’s 70th birthday, and it’s celebrating by releasing a new set of headphones, the Platinum Everest Elite 700.

As warranted by an occasion of this magnitude, the Platinum Everest Elite 700 are a limited-edition commemorative version of its Everest Elite 700 headphones, only with a Platinum-style finish, as the name implies. The headphones take the sound the company is known for and add Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless connectivity, making them a great pick for the serious listener on the go.

While the standard Everest 700 headphones don’t offer any sort of noise canceling feature, the Everest Elite 700 offer active noise cancellation via the company’s NXTGen technology. Like some recently released headphones from other companies, JBL’s noise cancellation allows the listener to control how much noise they let in, meaning they don’t have to be completely cut off from their surroundings.

In order to make sure the headphones give listeners exactly what they want, JBL has added some features for customization. The company’s TruNote Auto Sound Calibration is built in, automatically calibrating the headphones to the the listener.

They might not offer the same massive battery life as some other headphones we’ve seen released recently, but the Platinum Everest Elite 700 headphones are no slouch. JBL claims they offer up to 15 hours of playback time, though this will always vary based on the level of loudness or whether you’re using the noise canceling ability. To make that battery life last longer, an auto-off feature makes sure the headphones aren’t wasting juice when you aren’t listening.

The JBL Platinum Everest Elite 700 will be available beginning in early December via the JBL website and Best Buy. A price has not been announced yet.

Sony’s premium soundbars will finally get support for VRR, ALLM

It's been a long time coming, but the wait is almost over. Sony's premium home theater soundbars are set to receive a software update that will add support for variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low-latency mode (ALLM), two HDMI 2.1 gaming features that have been absent since these products launched.
