If you were a little busy celebrating the end of summer this past weekend, then you may have missed the latest – and arguably one of the coolest – developments in new televisions. On the eve of Labor Day, LG unveiled its latest OLED HDTV in Seoul South Korea, and not only does it answer the videophile’s cry for a wall-mounted OLED TV, it also aims to deliver on the futuristic dream of a TV that looks more like art on the wall than it does a TV.

The 55-inch LG Gallery OLED TV is mounted on what looks like a canvas and is surrounded by a picture frame. That “canvas,” however, is used to conceal ultra-thin speakers, while the picture frame hides a pair of subwoofers. When not in use, the TV can display pre-loaded high-resolution images of famous paintings by artists such as Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh.

Pricing on the set has not been announced, but we can probably expect something lofty, if not a bit cheaper than an original Gauguin.

As for availability, LG only states that the TV will be introduced in Germany first, with “other markets to follow.” Visitors to this year’s IFA show in Berlin can view the Gallery at LG’s booth in Hall 11.2 of Messe Berlin.

LG says its G3 OLED evo TV will be 70% brighter, with no visible wall gap

Ahead of its official CES 2023 presentation, LG has given us a taste of its TV tech for the coming year, especially as it relates to the company's lineup of OLED TVs. Once again, the G Series takes center stage, with the G3 OLED evo 4K. LG says that thanks to its Brightness Booster Max technology, the 55-, 65-, and 77-inch G3 models will see an increase in brightness by up to 70%.

The G3 OLED evo will also look a lot better when wall-mounted. LG calls its new One Wall Design approach "ultra-seamless" and says that it will leave no visible gap between the wall and the G3. That's saying a lot considering the G2 OLED evo was already impressively tight to the wall when wall-mounted.

If you're browsing for OLED TVs, then you probably know a bit about the tech behind them, but it's worth a quick recap. OLED TVs use pixels with their own light sources in them. Each individual pixel can adjust how bright it is independent of the rest of the screen, so you get perfect brightness and deep contrast that LED TVs with light panels just can't mimic. This LG C2 OLED TV utilizes that technology to its full extent. it has a powerful processor with AI baked in to read the screen and adjust the picture to perfect levels. It also has a brightness booster, so super bright scenes really pop. The combination of OLED pixels and the brightness booster means that shots with both perfect black and intense light have incredible contrast to them.

After lusting from afar for an agonizing month, I finally got to go hands- and eyes-on with LG's 42-inch OLED Flex TV. It's every bit as cool as I'd imagined, and then some. I desperately crave one. But there's no shot I'm going to buy it.

LG brought the new bendable OLED TV (yes, it's actually a TV) to the CEDIA Expo tradeshow and an exclusive offsite unveiling event in Dallas, Texas. I thoroughly checked out the trick TV on both occasions. If my first experience set the hook, the second reeled me in. But I'm afraid this will have to be a catch-and-release situation because while I love just about everything about the LG OLED Flex, I can't get past the price.
