In case you weren’t rocking out to Fleetwood Mac with SpeakerCraft gear back in 1976, you might not know that the company known for inventing the in-wall speaker actually got its start with ordinary cabinet speakers. And that’s exactly where it will return this year. On Wednesday, the company unveiled its flashy new Roots lines of high-end speakers.
Unlike the thousands of in-wall speakers that now populate its catalogs, which come closer to the ultimate goal of invisibility every year, the Roots flaunt their style with piano gloss black, white, silver, red or yellow finishes. Rounded edges and accents give them a look almost reminiscent of the Kanto SYD 5 iPod dock we reviewed last year.
Thhe 650, 450 and 350 bookshelf speakers will use 3.5-, 4.5- and 6.5-inch woofers, along with ½, ¾ and 1-inch silk tweeters, respectively. Speakercraft will also offer two subwoofers: the 8-inch, 200-watt model 208, and the 10-inch, 300-watt model 310. Both will offer an array of DSP and equalizer settings built right in, including loud, normal, clean, night, deep, and punch.
SpeakerCraft has not yet announced pricing or availability for any of the Roots line.
