Technics’ new wireless earbuds let you connect three devices at once

Technics has released two new models of noise-canceling wireless earbuds, and along with the usual improvements in things like sound quality and battery life, the EAH-AZ80 and EAH-AZ60M2 have a unique ability: they are the first wireless earbuds to expand Bluetooth Multipoint from two simultaneous connections to three. This could let you keep the buds connected to two smartphones and a laptop — or possibly a laptop, a phone, and a TV — without needing to disconnect and reconnect when you want to change the device you’re listening to.

The two models share many features, including wireless charging, which makes its debut on Technics wireless earbuds this year. They’re protected against some water exposure via their IPX4 rating, and they’re equipped with wear sensors, which enable auto-pause and the playing of music when the earbuds are inserted or removed.

They both support the LDAC Bluetooth codec for hi-res playback at up to 24-bit/96kHz, and the EAH-AZ80 feature a new 10mm, aluminum diaphragm dynamic driver, which the company says will offer lower distortion with a smoother sound.

Technics also claims that a redesigned shape will offer a more comfortable fit, with the EAH-AZ80 featuring material known as “Concha Fit Foam.”

Canadian audio brand, PSB Speakers, has released the details of its latest headphones: the $499 M4U 9 wireless headphones and $199 M4U TWM wireless earbuds. Both devices make use of audio personalization software from Audiodo, as well as PSB's own RoomFeel technology. The new headphones are expected to be available at retailers in June.

These are not the hi-res, UWB-based headphones that PSB teased earlier in 2023, which have yet to be released.

Sony debuts the WF-C700N, its most affordable noise-canceling earbuds

Sony has announced its latest wireless earbuds, and they bring the cost of the company's excellent active noise cancellation (ANC) technology to a new low price. At $120, the WF-C700N are a step up from the entry-level $100 WF-C500, which lack ANC, yet they're considerably more affordable than the $200 Sony LinkBuds S or the $279 WF-1000XM4, the company's only other ANC models.

The WF-C700N can be preordered immediately in one of four colors (black, white, lavender, and sage green), with an expected delivery date of April 17 to April 18.

From their impressive sound quality to their awesome noise cancellation, Sony's WF-1000XM4 are among the best noise-canceling wireless earbuds you can buy. But that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. If the latest leaked images, courtesy of the Walkman Blog, are indeed the XM4's successors (thus the WF-1000XM5), I think it's fair to say we now have a good idea of what some of those improvements might be.

Though the images are a bit rough due to their source (the Walkman Blog says they're from a certification document, but doesn't say which certification entity published them), a few things are immediately notable -- specifically their size and shape.
