Tivo Gives Away DVRs at Mock VCR Funeral

Tivo really wants you to have one of their DVR boxes. So much so that the company today announced they would be giving away hundreds of them at next week’s Digital Life consumer electronics show in New York City. The catch? Tivo is holding a mock funeral to “bring down the curtain on the VCR”. The event will include an eulogy, witness speakers sharing their personal memories of the VCR and a casket stuffed with VCR tapes. Consumers who bring a VHS cassette to the event and toss it into the casket will get a free Tivo box, tied to a service contract of course. This promotion will go on for as long as supplies last. The mock funeral and Tivo giveaway will be held specifically at noon on Friday, October 14 in the Crystal Lobby of New York City’s Jacob Javits Center. It is located on 11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets.
