Vizio’s new XVT HDTV lineup now available with 3D

Vizio is taking its acclaimed XVT HDTV series into the third dimension. The company has announced its latest lineup of 42-, 47- and 55-inch HDTVs are now for sale online and appearing in retail stores later this month. The sets boast an impressive array of both old and new features, but the big improvement this time around is the addition of 3D support (3D active shutter glasses sold separately) and a superior 480HZ refresh rate.

3D capability aside, expect the XVTs to come equipped with built-in dual band 802.11n Wi-Fi, a wireless Bluetooth remote complete with a handy sliding QWERTY keypad, high-speed HDMI inputs, and SRS TruSurround HD sound support. The sets also support Vizio Internet Apps allowing for access to online content including Amazon’s on-demand video service, Facebook, Twitter, and Pandora. The 55- and 47-inch models feature TruLED backlighting and smart dimming. The 42-inch model adopts Vizio’s Razor LED backlighting.

The 3D XVT lineup is currently available online through Amazon, Target and Sam’s Club with wider availability expected by December. The 42-inch set is priced at $1,399, the 47-inch at $1,799, the 55-inch set can be yours for a cool $2,399.

Vizio also announced the release of a pair of 3D compatible Blu-ray players to compliment its 3D HDTV offerings. The Blu-ray players promise to deliver “breathtaking” 2D and 3D video as well as Wi-Fi support to enable streaming through online sites like Netflix and Vudu. The players are priced at $189.99.  Not to leave consumers without a complete package, Vizio has also announced a new Wi-Fi router ($99.99) as well as some fancy HDMI cables ($59.99) to see you on your merry way to 3D HDTV land. Don’t forget those 3D shutter glasses!

Vizio 2021 elevate soundbar.

Ever since Vizio took the wraps off its ambitious 2020/2021 TV plans during CES in January, we've been eagerly awaiting the full details, including prices, finalized specs, and release dates. Today, we got what we wanted, including an official confirmation of Vizio's first OLED TV model, which we expect will be a powerful competitor of both LG and Sony's OLED models.

The new models boast a wide range of the most advanced technologies like multiple HDR formats, Dolby Atmos, and HDMI 2.1, however, none of them support NextGen TV (a.k.a. ASTC 3.0). This means you'll need an external ATSC 3.0 tuner if you decide you want to try out the latest free over-the-air broadcast standard with one of these Vizio models. These are the TVs that support NextGen TV.

CES is always full of mystery. That's what makes it so much fun -- and so terribly difficult to prepare for. That said, while we're always in for some surprises, it doesn't take a crystal ball to read at least some of the writing on the wall. When it comes to audio at CES 2020, we can predict the expansion of at least two major trends: True wireless earbuds and 3D immersive audio.

Easy guesses, you say? OK, I'll give you that, but let's dig a little deeper into both topics to give a preview of some of the biggest trends in audio that we'll see at the show in January -- and during the next year as well.
