Westinghouse Digital aims to redefine home theater with its nine-foot 4K/Ultra HD TV

Recently, we reported on the implications of LG’s downsizing of 4K/Ultra HD screens. Now comes news that Westinghouse Digital has gone about as far in the other direction as possible.

According to Westinghouse, the company will showcase a whopping 110-inch LED 4K/Ultra HDTV at CES next week. The TV is so big that converting it to feet is probably the easiest way to conceive of its size. Corner to corner, the mammoth stands just over nine feet – a foot-and-a-half taller than Shaq, and a foot shallower than the deep end of most pools.

Though it will obviously be the most conspicuous, the television isn’t the only 4K/Ultra HDTV Westinghouse will showcase at CES. The company will also have their 50, 55, and 65-inch units in tow, all of which feature native 120 Hz refresh rates. The company has traditionally been more of a budget brand, but with moves like this, it appears it is aiming to step outside of that box and into one that’s slightly more plush.

Said Rey Roque, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Westinghouse Digital.  “Westinghouse Digital was at the forefront of providing 1080p TVs to consumers and now is positioned to provide Ultra High Definition TVs to a broader market. We believe that consumers will be amazed by the experience they can expect from these displays and delighted with the affordability.”

Huh? Delighted with the affordability? Either Roque is removing the 110-incher from that equation, or UHD/4K models are about to get a lot cheaper. Stay tuned.

The 110-inch model will be available by special order only in Q1 of 2013. As of yet, we have no details on pricing.

Pioneer may not be one of the best TV brands around but it's well-established and not exactly a no-name choice. No one is expecting one of the best TVs when they're paying $150 but this one covers all the basics and a little more too. For instance, besides its 4K resolution, it also has Dolby Vision support so you get sharper contrast and better picture quality than ones that don't support it. It's those kind of things that soon add up.
