Behold the first-ever content series between Digital Trends and The Manual. The Bromance has begun. Since there are a plethora of brands out there melding style and technology, we thought we would take this opportunity to profile one item per week for the month of October, breaking them down and offering each of our unique takes on their tech and style components.

dt-logoDigital Trends:

You know what’s funny? How easily we’re marketed to. In this day and age, a celebrity endorsement can run rough shod over any sensible appraisal of an otherwise questionable product. Need an example? Headphones. With all due respect to Dr. Dre (seriously, Doctor? This is with respect. Please don’t hurt us), we’ve reached a point where every ninny from Snooki to Tim Tebow has slapped their name on a some cheap cans and apparently that’s more important to us than things like “high dynamic range” and “sound signature,” because we keep buying them.

You know who still cares about those kinds of things? Sennheiser. The company has been producing headphones since the late 40s and, at this point, makes headphones at nearly every price point that are as good or better than its competitors. We know; such exhaustive attention to detail in so many different products is very German of them.

So, if you’re looking for something that might make a professional sound engineer weep, we can point you toward something like the HD 800. If you’re looking for something that can go toe-to-toe with Dre’s best Beats, but looks classically dope instead of dopily plastic, we present the Momentum.

The ManualThe Manual:

Speaking of dope, what can kill a good looking, well planned outfit? Crappy looking candy colored cans over your ears. Dude, you aren’t in middle school anymore and matching the color of your headphones to your kicks is just redorkulous.

Men’s fashion has been looking rather woodsy as of late and the Sennheiser Momentum fit’s that feel to a ‘T,’ without being cheesy (just say no to faux wood grain anything, people). The premium brown leather ear pads and headband offer great style as well as breathability during your Mumford & Sons solo jam sessions and the handsome hard carrying case would look just as good carrying cufflinks (or a bottle of bourbon?) as these headphones. We don’t often call headphones ‘timeless’, but these Momentum’s are something a music nut might just pass down to his kids in the unlikely event that we are still using headphones in 30 years …

You might be wondering, "what's with the language?" Well, I wanted to communicate with you in the language of the folks who are in charge of baseball broadcasting rights. That's to say, old as hell. Ancient, even. Baseball broadcast rights, and specifically those pertaining to online streaming blackouts, are an issue with which I have been contending basically since the first smartphone came out that could handle a video stream. Put simply, they suck. How badly do they suck? Glad you asked! To answer that, allow me to tell you about the great state of Iowa.
