Wynd’s new smart air purifier keeps the air around you clean, wherever you go

You don’t need to live like The Boy in the Plastic Bubble to breathe cleaner air. Wynd Technologies Inc.  announced on Thursday the launch of Wynd, its personal air quality tracker and purifier. The devices monitor the air around you and work to purify it when necessary.

Wynd was designed with the goal of increasing air quality for its users. The purifier filters out numerous harmful particles, from allergens to bacteria to mold spores and more. With the CDC predicting increases in air pollution and allergens around the world in the near future, the startup has introduced the system at the right time.

“We set out to create a product that enables a healthy and comfortable air environment wherever life takes you,” said Raymond Wu, Wynd’s CEO and co-founder, in a statement. “Wynd is committed to improving the air quality problem which many people around the world encounter on a daily basis, whether from allergens or industrial pollution.”

When used as a set, the air quality tracker influences the purifier’s purification level automatically, based on information it gathers from the surrounding environment. Alternatively, the air quality tracker can be used on its own to collect information in various locations; it is extremely portable, clipping easily onto backpacks, key chains, and more.

Users can access the information the Wynd system gathers in the iOS app. In addition to current air quality, interested users can see how much pollution has been filtered by the air purifier. The system also keep tabs on when filters need to be replaced, even offering the options to subscribe for automatic refills and purchase them through the app.

“Living in environments free from pollutants and allergens is crucial to our overall health and well-being,” said Dr. Alan Cohen, a pediatric pulmonologist and adjunct clinical faculty at Stanford University School of Medicine, in a statement. “Wynd’s smart and portable purifier is a groundbreaking advancement that will help people breathe healthier air wherever they are.”

The Wynd system is now available on Kickstarter for $139. The air quality tracker can be purchased separately for $69.

Dyson Pure Humidify Cool Sensor Data.

Flu season is never fun, especially if multiple members of your family or friend group end up catching it. A bad case of the flu can knock you down for weeks and leave you feeling awful. But let’s look on the bright side: There are plenty of smart home upgrades you can make to help fight the flu -- or least stay more comfortable while curled on your couch. Here are our favorites that help the most when you’re feeling lousy.
1. Nest Smart Thermostat

The latest Nest Smart Thermostat from Google is more affordable than ever while still offering some of the best thermostat features around. That includes easy temperature adjustment right from the app, so you can bump the temp up or down depending on how the chills and fever are going. The proximity detectors can also tell when you’re shuffling around in the middle of the night, unable to sleep, and will turn on the heat to help keep you warm. We’re also big fans of Ecobee’s new SmartThermostat, which includes additional comfort settings that are easy to set if you’re willing to pay a bit more.
