Not distracted enough by XM Radio satellite radio in your Avis rental? Get ready for satellite television and DVD as new entertainment options in select cars as the rental car giant rolls out both services to markets nationwide.
Avis specifically said today they would be putting DIRECTV satellite television in new Hummer H3 sports utility vehicles. These specially equipped SUVs, currently only available for rent at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, AZ, feature a patented in-car satellite TV system designed by KVH Industries. KVH is best known for creating the TracVision A5 system found in passenger cars as an aftermarket option.
Avis customers will be able to access 135 channels on the DIRECTV system. Additionally, approximately 5,000 vehicles equipped with built-in DVD entertainment systems are available for rental in a variety of Avis locations. There is no additional charge for either service, according to a press release.
“We want to ensure that our customers have the best rental experience possible when they choose Avis. The addition of DIRECTV service and DVD gives our customers an unparalleled level of entertainment choices,” said Scott Deaver, executive vice president of marketing for the Cendant Car Rental Group, parent company of Avis.
