The best robot mops for 2021

Able to keep floors sparkling clean with almost no work from you, robot mops are a key part of your robot home automation army. Like a robot vacuum, you can send a robot mop off around your home to clean up after you, your kids, or your pets (or all three).

Why get a robot mop?

Perhaps you’re wondering if you even need a robot mop. Mopping is one of the most tedious household chores, so having a machine handle this tedious work for you is priceless. Unless you have a home with mostly carpets and limited hard-floor surfaces, in which case you probably don’t need a robot mop, a robot mop can be extremely helpful when you’re trying to keep large hard-floor surfaces clean on a routine basis.

What are the different types of robot mops?

There are two main types of robot mops: A dedicated mop bot and a dual robot option that is both a mop and a vacuum cleaner. You might think the dedicated version is better and that it might be more powerful, but, in fact, some of the dual models can mop and vacuum with both power and efficiency.

Other factors to consider are whether your mop bot of choice uses disposable or reusable mopping pads (or both), and whether they have smart features, such as laser-guided mapping or voice control.

Those are some of the key features, now let’s dig in to some of the best robot mops out there.

iRobot Braava jet M6

This mopping unit is amazing at cleaning, and you can depend on it to do a good job on your floors. Comprising both a wet mop and a Swiffer-type dry sweeping feature, the Braava jet M6 is a highly intelligent little machine. (You should also check out the best Roomba robots for 2020 if you’re looking to pick up a companion vacuum.)

The bot comes with disposable pads for both mopping and sweeping, and you can replace them with either more disposable ones or reusable, washable pads if you prefer. We like that the unit is Wi-Fi connected with good mapping, and the water tank can be lifted out and filled easily from the tap rather than having to angle the whole machine into your sink.

Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI

Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI

The Ozmo T8 is an excellent example of a dual bot that can both vacuum and mop with equal efficiency. It boasts artificial intelligence and visual interpretation (AIVI) technology, meaning its ability to navigate around your home without running into obstacles is unmatched. This is a smart model that has voice control via Google Assistant and Alexa and has a neat Visual Butler feature, that lets you view a live video of your home on the app through the bot’s built-in camera. We don’t really know why you would need to do this (check up on the cat, maybe? Added home security?) but it’s pretty cool. Read the full Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI review: Everything but clean.

iLife W400

Erika Rawes/Digital Trends

Although not as technologically advanced as pricier models, this mopping bot is a great option if you’re on a budget. What it lacks in bells and whistles (like an advanced app and voice control), it makes up for with a quiet operating system, a long battery life, and a solid ability to clean your floor.

Roborock S6 Max

This dual vacuum/mop bot has a highly intuitive app with customizable cleaning settings, as well as an automatic quick-start feature that will set it off cleaning your room, adapting as it goes.

You can start it using voice control via Alexa or Google Assistant, which is pretty handy, too. The vacuum is one of the most powerful on the market and has five different power settings. It’s not as quiet as some other models, but it makes up for this by cleaning your house very quickly and navigating around obstacles with ease.

Yeedi K700

A cleaning bot that stands out from the crowd, the Yeedi K700 is a compact unit with a white and pink color scheme. It’s affordable and intuitive, with a camera that allows it to map its own cleaning route. Clever too, is its ability to return automatically to its dock at the end of a cycle or when it needs charging. It’s also super quiet: Only 55dB, which is about as loud as your refrigerator.

Eufy RoboVac L70 Hybrid

The L70 uses lasers to map its cleaning route and has a companion app that lets you set no-go zones. It has a seriously impressive battery life of 2.5 hours, which is great for larger houses, and is generally a very efficient machine, thanks to its advanced navigation technology.

The RoboVac hybrid doesn’t use any detergent when it mops the floor, which is something to bear in mind if you’re looking for a mop/vacuum bot to give your floors a deep clean. But, it still leaves floors looking sparkling clean.

Robot mops are increasing in sophistication, and it’s now possible to find an efficient little unit to take that unpleasant chore off your hands. Better yet, dual vacuum and mop bots are becoming more and more intelligent, meaning cleaning the floor has never been so easy. In this era of hyper-awareness of the cleanliness of our homes, now might be the best time to invest in a robot mop.

iRobot Roomba j7 plus 7550 robot vacuum in charging dock by entryway.

The Roomba j7 and j7+ are two of the best robot vacuums on the market, and if you opt into a fairly new beta, they only become more enticing. When signing up for the Remote Check-In beta, you’ll get to use your robot vacuum as a makeshift security camera -- allowing you to “check in” on your home while you're away.

The company opened the feature to select owners in November, but the company is just now rolling it out to a larger audience. In fact, if you have a Roomba j7 or j7+ at home, there’s a good chance you received a notification from your companion smartphone app telling you about the service. There are still some serious limitations to the beta (it only works with iOS devices and is supported by just a handful of products in the j7 lineup), but if you get the notification, there’s no harm in checking out the cool new feature.
