GE’s latest smartphone-savvy ranges notify you with lights, monitor your meat

GE smartphone-savvy ranges
Worried you might’ve left the oven on, but can’t make it home to check? No problem. With GE’s newest free-standing Profile Series gas and electric ranges, you can just hop on your smartphone to check if it’s still running, and turn it off remotely with just a tap.

Earlier this week, the company pulled the curtain back on three new additions to its rapidly-growing lineup of smart kitchen appliances, all of which can be controlled remotely via GE’s Brillion app for iOS and Android. The new free-standing ranges are GE’s second cooking appliances, following the Profile Series wall oven– that allow users to preheat, set time, and adjust the temperature from a mobile device.

“We’re expanding our line of connected appliances to make life easier while you’re on the go,” said Product Manager Jonathan Sprigler. “Consumers expect more things to be accessible through their phones, and GE is enabling them to have the control they want.”

Smartphone controls aren’t the only trick GE has up its sleeve either. In addition to letting you preheat the oven while you’re on you’re way home with a pizza, the new Profile Series ranges (models PB930, PGB940, P2B940) also boast a slew of high-end features, including:

  • True European Convection with GE’s Precise Air circulation technology that increases air coverage on food, resulting in better cooking performance (electric models only).
  • A warming drawer that  provides variable temperature control for keeping foods warm.
  • Self-clean, heavy-duty roller rack that easily glides out and requires less effort to transfer dishes from the oven to the table.
  • An oven meat probe tracks the temperature of the food in the oven without constantly opening the oven door.
  • Tri-ring burners that let you determine what size heating element you need—6, 9 or 12 inches—to perfect your recipes.
  • Notification lighting that makes it easy to multitask while you cook. The interior oven light automatically comes on when the oven has preheated so you can quickly see the progress while you do something else.

Model number PB930 retails for about $1,599, whereas both PGB940 and P2B940 model numbers will go for $2,099. Find out more here

GE expands Cync smart light lineup, adds climate control, camera
GE Cync lights set up in gaming room.

If you’ve never heard of Cync by GE Lighting you could be forgiven. It doesn’t get the press of some other more popular brands of smart lighting. Today, GE Lighting announced several new Cync products that will expand this smart lighting platform to a full smart home ecosystem, meaning if it's not already on your radar, it should be.

As part of CES 2022, the company is introducing a smart thermostat and temperature sensor, a line of outdoor security cameras, and several new lighting products to its family of connected products. A big bonus for many consumers, there is no additional hub or bridge required to create the Wi-Fi connection needed for automation and scheduling.

Don’t believe the marketing! Robot chefs aren’t what you think they are
mckinsey automation job change replacement robotics moley robot chef hands screen

There's nothing more disappointing than misleading marketing. You purchased a bottle of the hottest hot sauce because, based on its advertising, you expect it to numb all your senses, only to discover it barely passes as Taco Bell's mild sauce. Maybe you ran out to buy a "wearable air conditioner" because you're sick of sweating through your outdoor workout garb, but find out too late that you invested in nothing more than a glorified cooling neckband.

While I'm no expert on the fine-printed inner workings of the marketing world, I think we can all agree that one of the main goals of any type of marketing, regardless of the brand, service, or event, is to generate awareness and hype. This is more than understandable, as companies should want to lasso in prospective buyers with alluring lingo. But sometimes the hype train is a bit overloaded and can derail expectations when consumers like you and me finally get our hands on the goods or services being hailed.

Changes are coming to C by GE, and not just a new lineup of products. The company is getting a brand-new name after integrating with Savant. Now GE Lighting is known as a Savant company. The company is making major changes, including a rebrand of all C by GE products into Cync for CES 2021.

The C by GE app will transition to the Cync app in March. This app controls more than lighting -- it allows users to control their entire home, inside and out. It also uses the patented TrueImage feature to preview changes to lighting through a picture in-app. You can know what your room will look like before you commit to changing the light color.
