KVH Industries, a provider of in-motion satellite TV and communication systems, and Microsoft’s MSN TV division today announced a collaboration which will bring in-motion web browsing and interaction with Microsoft/MSN web-based applications to marine vessels cruising in U.S. waters. The new Mobile Internet Receiver with MSN TV will be available later this year.
The Mobile Internet Receiver with MSN TV, said the two groups, is a customized version of the MSN TV 2 Internet & Media Player set top box. Working with a marinized, amplified antenna and a built-in data modem, the Mobile Internet Receiver will provide mariners high speed, wireless EVDO (Evolution Data Optimized) service where available. When not available, the system will switch over to standard 1xRTT data service, which is available in most cellular coverage areas.
Other features of this new boat based Internet setup will include support for audio and video streaming services from MSN, a wireless keyboard, integration with television screens found on board and built-in WiFi output to create a floating, mobile hot spot.

Plus, e-mail and instant messaging will permit everyone onboard to stay in touch with family, friends, and co-workers on shore…KVH looks forward to working with Microsoft…and MSN TV technology to offer boaters an affordable, reliable source of two-way, in-motion Internet access.”
