The GoSun Brew makes coffee anywhere using the power of the sun

Of all the inventions out there for off-the-grid living and camping, one of the most readily available is a way to make coffee. After all, everyone wants their morning cup of joe, whether they’re in the office or emerging out of a tent. The GoSun Brew combines coffee and portable power in a device that can brew coffee and tea anywhere you might be.

The GoSun Brew only weighs three pounds, making it perfect for sticking in a backpack for long hikes. It uses a 12-volt, 130-watt heater and a French press. Best of all, the double-insulated mug will not only help brew your drink, but keep it warm (or cold) for hours. The included power bank has a capacity of 266Wh and can charge a laptop five times, a smartphone 22 times, or brew up to eight cups of coffee.

Even if you run out of power, the GoSun Brew includes two folding solar panels that fit inside the carrying case and can power the device up in the middle of nowhere in a short amount of time.

The included carrying case houses all of the necessary cables and accessories, and provides protection for the solar panels and other components. You can charge wirelessly from the power bank, or through USB-C or an adjustable DC port that ranges from 12 volts to 24 volts. You can power up to five devices at once, and there’s even an integrated flashlight for emergencies.

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a long-haul Appalachian Trail through-hiker, the GoSun Brew is a great way to keep a cup of your favorite coffee or tea on hand at all times. It is currently available on Kickstarter and has already met its goal, but there are still early bird options as low as $89 available for those who want to back the GoSun Brew. If its past Kickstarter projects, like its solar powered water purifier and cooler, are any indication, you can bet products will be delivered.

As always, keep in mind the potential risks when backing a product through a crowdfunding platform. Pledging money is not a guarantee of production or delivery.

Instant Pot tackles coffee with Instant Pod 2-in-1 machine
Instant Pot Instant Pod 2-in-1 Single Brew Coffee and Espresso Maker

Instant Pot is well-known for its line of easy-to-use pressure cookers and the culture of high-quality, fast meals that has sprung up around it. Now the company is branching into the world of coffee with the new Instant Pod 2-in-1 Single Brew Coffee and Espresso Maker. This machine brews both K-Cups and Nespresso capsules, giving customers a range of different flavor choices to pick from. It’s designed to provide the best possible temperatures to extract coffeehouse-style flavors from the pods. Best of all, it's quick and convenient.

The machine also accepts reusable pods, so customers that want to cut down on plastic waste and go the more environmentally friendly route have options. It also shuts off after half an hour of inactivity to not only preserve power but also as a safety feature. If the Instant Pod works with reusable pods, it may allow users to use their own grounds in custom pods, but that is not confirmed.

For thirsty campers, GoSun’s water purifier purges germs with power of the sun
gosun flow solar power water purifier news

In the modern, hygiene-conscious world, it can (ironically) be difficult to find a hand sanitizer for quick cleaning on the go, and it’s not always possible to find a sink to wash your hands. GoSun presents a solution with GoSun Flow, a portable solar-powered water purifier and sanitation system. The Flow is small enough to fit inside of a backpack and uses solar power to filter out 99.99% of pathogens from water -- including the coronavirus. GoSun says it can kill the coronavirus, but it's not really clear that its spread via water is an issue. According to the CDC, COVID-19 has not yet been detected in drinking water.

The GoSun Flow is built to be a portable handwashing station, shower, source of drinking water, and more. The all-in-one unit includes everything the user needs including a faucet, pump, filter, power bank, and solar panels. The GoSun Flow can also be powered via a USB outlet.
