If taking an elevator up to your hotel suite isn’t enough of a challenge for you, Natura Vive’s Skylodge Adventure Suites in Peru may capture your interest. Suspended from the side of a mountain in the Sacred Valley of Cuzco, the capsule suites literally take adventure travel to a whole new level. Those with a fear of heights will almost certainly want to opt out, but for all others, the stunning 300-degree view will make it well worth the trip up.
In order to get to the hotel, guests can either scale 400 meters of Via Ferrata or follow a hiking trail that includes zip-lines. It’s not all hard work, though: At the top, a gourmet dinner with wine awaits, as well as high-quality mattresses and comfortable bedding. Breakfast is provided as well, so there’s no need to worry about where to get food when you’re suspended from the face of the mountain.
The Skylodge is comprised of three suites, made from transparent aerospace aluminum and weather-resistant polycarbonate. At 24 feet long and 8 feet both high and wide, each suite can sleep eight and includes four beds, a dining area, and a private bathroom. They’re eco-friendly, too, with solar-powered lamps and reading lights, plus a dry ecological toilet and sink. Though the pod is transparent, there are curtains so guests can still have privacy when needed.
With a mission to share the mountain experience with people of various ages and outdoor expertise, Natura Vive offers several training programs and excursions. According to the company, the opening of the Skylodge Adventure Suites in June 2013 made the pods the world’s first hanging lodge.
To elevate your next vacation, book a pod here, starting at about $290 a night.
