This tech entrepreneur's $88-million home has everything you need for work and play

If you work from home, you might have your own office — a room with a desk, chair, maybe a potted plant to talk to during those long, lonely hours. What you probably don’t have is a 1,024-square-foot executive center on your property where you conduct business.

Unless of course you’re the co-founder of the data center and storage networking company Brocade Communications Systems. That’s how entrepreneur Kumar Malavalli is able to conduct business in his lavish Los Altos Hills, California home office away from home. The center has its own kitchenette and conference room as well as reception desk. But the eight-acre property is set up for more than just business.

The five-bedroom house, which is roughly 20,400 square feet, has an indoor pool with a swim-up bar and retractable roof (which closes on its own when it starts to rain), movie theater, and 4,000-bottle-capacity wine cellar. The home “is really set up for somebody who wants to do business in the Valley and entertain in the Valley,” Michael Dreyfus of Sotheby’s International Realty told The Wall Street Journal.

The grounds also house a six-car garage, a building with a catering kitchen, patios with fireplaces, and statues, including one of children playing Ring Around the Rosie that seems destined to spring to life at any moment. Inside, there’s a much less terrifying statue of a reposing lion.

Malavalli and his wife are selling the home, for $88 million, so they can be closer to their grandchildren. While it’s among the most expensive properties ever listed in the area, Dreyfus says that pricier homes have sold privately.
