The Los Angeles Police Department got a few extra ounces of weight to carry this week as they took shipment of nearly 500 Cellboosts for BlackBerrys. The Cellboosts, made by Compact Power Systems, were donated by the company to the police department as part of their corporate giving program.
The Cellboost portable power solution, which is pocket sized, attaches to the same portal used by a standard battery charger. It continues to power the device while at the same time recharging the battery for up to 60 minutes of usage time or 60 hours of standby time.
LAPD plans to issue the Cellboosts to all BlackBerry users. The BlackBerrys are used by officers and others for off-hour notification and also while responding during major incidents.
“Cellboost gives our BlackBerry users that added security of knowing that they will never be left powerless when it comes to communicating from the field,” said a representative of the LAPD.
