Men are tough and insensitive, right? Apparently not. The annual Internet Crime Report from the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has shown that men are more likely to be scammed online than women and lose more money. According to the study, which is basedon the more than 206,000 complaints IC3 received over the last year, for every $1 lost by a woman, men lost $1.67 during 2007. Men also made up the majority of complainants – 57.6%, with almosthalf between the ages of 30 and 50. IC3 research manager and one of the report’s author’s John Kane, could only speculate as to why men lost more than women online. "Historically men were more apt to purchase large-ticket items like electronics. That could explain a lot of it. Men tend to fall victim to business investment schemes and some other schemesthat have a higher dollar loss."
