New iPod On The Way?

New iPod On The Way?

Could it be true? Could there be a new iPod Nano and a new iTunes in weeks? That’s what Digg founder Kevin Rose says the rumors are.

In a personal blog posting, he claims to have the information from anonymous sources. The new iPod Nano, he says, will be curved, as well as thinner and longer, with a larger screen. That would certainly seem comparable with an Apple patent application from 2006, which described a ceramic tube casing that would allow the transmission of Wi-Fi signals, according to Vnunet.

Additionally, Rose says Apple will cut prices throughout the iPod line, and offer a new version of iTunes and iPod Touch firmware. All this will happen in the next two to three weeks.

However, he hasn’t always been on the money. In the past he’s predicted that the iPhone would be offered through multiple carriers and sport several batteries, and that the iPhone 3G would have video chat.

I didn’t think the HomePod mini could replace my soundbar — but it did
apple homepod mini soundbar replacement opinion home theater 3 of 5

I've never cared much for my home theater setup. In fact, I own a six-year-old LG LED television paired with a soundbar. And if that sounds bad, just know that it’s a 3D TV too. That’s all there is to it. Despite the boring and questionable arrangement, I do enjoy watching a good flick with the volume at nearly full blast, which is my vain attempt at reliving the theater experience at home.

It’s honestly mind-boggling to fathom how I’ve tolerated such a setup for so long. And I never imagined that I could improve it by adding the HomePod mini into the mix. But you know what? Not only is it now part of my home theater setup, but it’s replaced my soundbar for those movie-watching sessions. I never intended for this to happen, but after experiencing the HomePod mini work its magic, I’m convinced it’s a solution for those looking to elevate their audio experience.
How to connect HomePod mini to Apple TV
In order for this to happen, you’ll need a couple of things. First is an Apple TV because the HomePod mini doesn’t have an auxiliary input jack to accept audio from other sources. The Apple TV is necessary to send and sync audio to the speakers.

Apple’s lower-priced HomePod mini paves the way for HomeKit’s eventual success
Apple Homepod Mini on a table

When Apple launched the HomePod in 2018, it was seen as a late start in the world of smart speakers. Both its main rivals, Amazon and Google, were already building up a healthy collection of speakers by then, and it also didn't help that the HomePod carried a premium price. Sure, the focus was on delivering a speaker with premium audio, but the high price point prevented it from appealing to a broader range of consumers. Thankfully, Apple has learned its lesson with the announcement of the HomePod mini.

Even though the name implies some obvious aesthetic changes, the single best part about the announcement is the fact that it's now Apple's most affordable home hub for HomeKit-enabled smart home gadgets. That may seem like an insignificant claim, but it's exactly what Apple needed to offer. You just couldn't access a security camera or control a smart lock at home without a home hub. It's a critical piece in talking with all of your HomeKit devices when you're outside of your home's Wi-Fi network.

iRobot takes charge, stirs up competition with new direction of Roomba i3 Plus

The iRobot Roomba lineup represents the gold standard of robot vacuum cleaners, but the most advanced features are typically only present in flagship models. The downside to this, of course, is the high price point; for example, the Roomba i7 Plus with automatic dirt disposal is a cool $800, while the s9 Plus is a staggering $1,100.

Both of these models include the Clean Base that automatically empties the Roomba after a cleaning cycle and recharges it. Both will hold up to 60 days' worth of dirt and debris. For customers, this means far less time spent emptying the Roomba and far more time spent enjoying the benefits of a clean floor.
