Now you can add an Addams Family chime to your Ring Video Doorbell

When you’re decorating for Halloween you probably don’t think about dressing up your doorbell for the occasion, but maybe you should if you have a Ring Video Doorbell. Now you can add an Addams Family signature Chime tone to your Ring to celebrate the new The Addams Family film coming out on October 11.
This feature has to be activated and works with systems that use Ring Chime or Ring Chime Pro (Wi-Fi-enabled speakers for your Ring Video Doorbell), though there is an app version for your Ring notifications. When activated, your Ring Chime will play the classic Addams Family song instead of a tone, complete with the creepy du-du-du-duhs and snaps. If you’re really excited to use this new feature during Trick-or-Treat, don’t worry. The new Addams Family tone is available now through the end of November.

How to get the new Addams Family chime

To get the new chime, you just need to choose it on the app. To do this, go to the Ring app and tap on the picture of your chime on the app’s dashboard. Next, tap Chime Tones. A list of new tones for your devices will pop up. Choose the Addams Family tone and save the new settings. The next time someone rings your Ring doorbell, you’ll hear the Addams Family song. You may want to try it out yourself, just for fun, though.

How to get an Addams Family notification for your Ring app

If you don’t have a Chime or Chime Pro, you can set up an Addams Family notification for your phone through the app. To set it up, open the app and tap on your device on the dashboard. Then tap App Alert Tones from the menu. From there, scroll through the tones until you find the Addams Family option, tap it and tap the back button to save your selection. Now your app will play the Addams Family song instead of a tone or voice notification. If it gets to be too much, you can always switch back to your preferred notification.

Here’s what I want to see in the next Ring Video Doorbell
Ring video doorbell leader

If any company is leading in the smart doorbell market, it's Ring. The company had a bit of a rough start due to privacy concerns, but has since doubled down on its efforts and emerged as one of the leading brands. Between the Video Doorbell, the Video Doorbell Pro 2, and all of the other options it has on the market, Ring has raised the bar for what customers expect. However, there are still features I would love to see in the next iteration of the Ring Video Doorbell.
4K video
There are a lot of reasons why most video doorbells top out at 1080p, with storage leading the charge. With limited storage capabilities on SD cards, it's hard to justify the amount of memory that 4K video takes, even if it does bring a big difference in clarity. It would still be great to see the option available for users. Perhaps the next Ring Video Doorbell could record at a lower resolution, such as 1080p or 1440p, but stream in 4K if users have sufficient Wi-Fi speed.

Although 4K may sometimes seem like a luxury, the higher-quality lenses provide more clarity in all conditions. The ability to make out finer details on the camera can make a huge difference. For example, if you're targeted by a porch pirate, 4K video can make it easier to read the logo or lettering on a shirt than if the video were capped at 1080p.
Full-color night vision
Full-color night vision is a growing feature in many security cameras, but it has yet to make its way into many smart doorbells. Full-color night vision provides many of the same benefits that 4K video does. It provides greater clarity and allows the viewer to make out finer details through the camera, whether you're watching a funny animal on your porch or keeping an eye out for package thieves.

How does Ring Video Doorbell work?
Ring video doorbell leader image

If you’ve been considering a Ring Video Doorbell for your home, you might be wondering exactly what you get, how it works, and what to expect. It pays to understand how the Ring Doorbell works so you’ll know how it will fit into your home and lifestyle.
How does the Ring Video Doorbell work?

The Ring Video Doorbell is an external doorbell device that houses a small high-definition (HD) video camera. When pressed, the doorbell sends an alert to your smartphone (and to your Alexa device, if you have one), which will allow you to view and speak with whoever is at your door. If you’re not home, you can still answer the door from anywhere in the world -- so no one needs to know if your home is empty. If you miss a ring or alert, you can catch up on missed rings by watching your doorbell footage at a later time.
