Another car manufacturer has taken the satellite radio plunge in a sign of continued growth for the young industry. This time around it is Suzuki selecting XM Satellite Radio for their new 2006 models.
XM said Suzuki would put XM-Ready equipment in their completely redesigned Grand Vitara small size SUV as well as their seven-passenger size XL-7 sports utility vehicle. The XM hardware will be available as a dealer-installed option for $399 plus installation.
As part of this promotion, those who activate their XM Satellite Radio at the dealership will get a three month subscription at no charge. The service normally runs $12.95 a month.
Other auto manufacturers which have taken on XM equipment in their vehicles include General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan and Volkswagen/Audi.
“Suzuki’s decision to offer XM-ready audio systems as standard equipment on the Grand Vitara and XL-7 is further proof that XM is being enthusiastically embraced by consumers,” said Paul Kirsch, vice president of OEM business at XM Satellite Radio. “With the addition of Suzuki to our ever- expanding family of automotive partners, we look forward to continuing our rapid rate of growth by introducing even more consumers to coast-to-coast, commercial-free motoring.”
