The new Wyze Cam Pan v2 lets you set up a custom patrol route

It can be tough to position a security camera in just the right spot, but the Wyze Cam Pan v2 doesn’t have this issue. Thanks to its 360-degree horizontal tilt and its 93-degree vertical tilt, it can keep an eye on the action throughout the entire room. In fact, you can place it near the center of the room and have it constantly on the lookout for trouble.

The Wyze Cam Pan v2 also includes full-color night vision at 1080p resolution. Knowing details like the color of a shirt can make a lot of difference, and the full-color night vision gives this camera a leg up over competitors that lack this feature.

Unlike many other cameras, the Wyze Cam Pan v2 doesn’t broadcast its presence at night. Its infrared lights are invisible, offering a more subtle and discreet way to monitor your home without alerting an intruder to the existence of the camera. It’s also far less likely to attract the attention of your cat or wake up someone sleeping in the room.

The most standout feature of the Wyze Cam Pan v2 is its ability to automatically track the action. If it picks up motion, the camera will automatically turn to face it and track the motion as it moves across its field of view. You can also set up to four custom waypoints that the camera will then use as patrol markers. The camera will constantly pan and tilt between these points to keep an eye on the entire space.

Of course, the Wyze Cam Pan v2 also includes the features you expect from Ring devices: Two-way audio, 24/7 continuous recording, and free 14-day rolling cloud storage. You can purchase a 32GB microSD card to store up to three days of continuous footage on the device itself.

The Wyze Cam Pan v2 also listens for smoke and CO alarms, and when paired with Ring’s Cam Plus service, can provide smart notifications to distinguish between people, packages, and vehicles. The Wyze Cam Pan v2 is available for $40 plus shipping, but if you’re a Cam Plus member, you can purchase the camera for $38 plus shipping.

Lorex introduces 2K Outdoor Pan-Tilt WiFi Camera to eradicate blind spots
Lorex 2K Pan-Tilt WiFi Outdoor Security Camera mounted on stone wall.

Smart home security is one of the more practical implementations of modern "smart" technologies. What's most promising about it is the oversight and convenience it affords. Once a smart home camera is installed on your property, indoors or out, you can tune in remotely, streaming the live feed to your phone or device to check in on what's happening. Wi-Fi-enabled doorbells are an excellent example of this technology in action, as they allow you to see who's at your door, interact with visitors, and much more. You can actually do the same things with a smart security camera, including talking to visitors or warning off intruders. However, pretty much all of these smart devices have a crippling caveat -- blind spots. Depending on where you install your camera, there are frequently blind spots where the camera can't see, and, thus, where you can't see. That's the problem the Lorex Outdoor Pan-Tilt WiFi Security Camera aims to solve.

Thanks to its impressively wide field of view -- which means it can see and capture a lot -- and its motorized lens, the Lorex Pan-Tilt can be adjusted remotely through the Lorex Home App to ensure you always have a clear view of what's happening in the surrounding area. That's precisely why our reviewer Caleb Denison was interested in the Lorex Outdoor Pan-Tilt, and also why he installed it in his home. We'll let him explain it a little better:

Can you use a Blink Outdoor Camera without a subscription?
Blink Outdoor cam wet from the rain.

Blink’s Outdoor Camera has made it into some of our top recommendations thanks to its affordability and ease of use. The cam is weatherproof, wireless with a two-year battery life, and includes important smart features like motion detection with customizable zones and two-way audio from the Blink app.

But home security cams come with a key caveat these days: Video storage often depends on subscription plans, and may be highly limited outside of livefeeds unless you pay an extra fee. Blink’s plans (purchased through Amazon) start at $3 per month. It’s always a good idea to ask about the features included with any security cam, and if it can be used without a subscription so you can save money.
Does the Blink Outdoor Camera require a subscription to use?
Technically, no. You still have access to a number of Blink Outdoor Camera features without paying any subscription fee. These include the ability to save motion alerts, two-way audio, and the ability to watch live feeds. That compares quite well against other home security subscriptions, many of which disable alerts without paying ongoing fees.
