Besides DogPile’s meta search engine and Lycos’s search engine top year end search results, other companies were busy this week announcing their own as well. Two of those were Yahoo and AOL.
For AOL, the top three search terms, in order, ended up being lottery, horoscopes and tattoos. New search terms which emerged as popular included the puzzle Sudoku, the irregular minting of the new Wisconsin Quarter and the global music event Live 8. More details, including such things as Paris Hilton being the most searched on celebrity and the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba being the most searched on news topic, can be viewed on AOL’s top searches of 2005 site.
Yahoo, meanwhile, stated that for them it was all about celebrities in their top 2005 search results. Hitting the head of the A crowd was Britney Spears, followed by 50 Cent and the Cartoon Network. Other interesting top 2005 results, which can be viewed on Yahoo’s special year end list, include NFL as the top sports search, digital cameras as the top product search and tsunami as the top news item.
