Netatmo Wi-Fi weather station won’t let you pull a Zooey Deschanel

Netatmo urban weather station

Everyone and their moms made fun of Zooey Deschanel’s Apple commercial when she dared ask Siri if it’s raining although it was clearing pouring out. Given this pop culture reference, it may seem strange to drop a couple hundred bucks on an “urban weather station” designed to tell you your local weather and forecast. The thing is, the Netatmo Personal Weather Station isn’t just a device for forecasts-on-demand, it’ll also measure the air quality so you know what you’re up against for the day. And now, the company has released additional indoor modules so you can check the air quality and humidity levels in every room of your home.

The device works like this: Place the modules around your home (both indoor and outdoor versions) and sync them up to your home’s Wi-Fi. The devices will measure carbon dioxide, humidity, and temperature levels so that if they ever exceed the normal average, you will get an alert on your mobile device. The Netatmo system helps you caution when CO2 levels are too high so you can ventilate the home for better air quality.

By being able to measure the air quality for both indoor and outdoor conditions, Netatmo can aid those who chronically suffer from headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestions, seasonal allergies, or asthma. Users are one button away instead of clicking and searching for local data on a weather website. Just one small step for mankind against the wrath of nature.

The Netatmo weather station is available now for $180, with pre-orders being accepted for additional indoor modules at $80 apiece. The mobile app is compatible with both Android and iOS.

The Wi-Fi enabled Anova Precision Oven will help you never overcook foods again
never overcook foods again with anova precision oven corn steam

Do your foods suffer from timing problems? Many cooks, especially those just starting out in the kitchen, are shocked to discover that different ovens cook at different rates. The times given on recipes are guidelines based on the operation of your specific device. Anova aims to streamline the cooking process with the launch of the Anova Precision Oven, a combination convection-steam oven that gives precise control over temperatures and cook times.

One of the ways the Anova Precision Oven does this is through the use of steam. Boiling with steam stops the water content of the food from cooking away during its cook time, allowing flavor and nutrients to remain that might otherwise be lost. It also provides a “Sous Vide” mode that gives pinpoint cooking results without the need for a bag or water bath.

If you invest in smart blinds, you'd expect them to work with the home hubs they were supposed to work with. Unfortunately, if you were planning on buying Fyrtur Smart Blinds from Ikea, or you've already installed them in your home, we have some bad news if you have Apple's HomeKit. It looks like these smart blackout roller-style blinds won't be compatible with HomeKit until some time in early 2020. This information comes from a tweet made by Ikea U.K. Support on Twitter.

The Fyrtur blinds have the ability to be operated remotely and can be put on a timer to open and close automatically. They are currently available in various sizes on the Ikea website and start at $129 each. The blind will work remotely with Ikea's Smart Home App and the remote they come with, but they were supposed to be compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and HomeKit right out of the box.
