Amtrak Offering Tickets through Cell Phones

Amtrak today announced a new mobile site which will let riders purchase travel tickets through their phones. Amtrak.mobi can be accessed on most web-enabled mobile devices including cell phones and PDAs.

Amtrak.mobi is formatted for the smaller screen of mobile devices. It provides riders the ability to purchase tickets for upcoming trips as well as providing access to one’s booking profile and up-to-date train status information. This site, said Amtrak, complements Amtrak Mobile, a mobile web- accessing system it launched last summer. Both mobile offerings are available in both English and Spanish.

Amtrak added amtrak.mobi is the first travel site in the United States to offer customers the ability to purchase a ticket using a mobile device.

"With the growth of our online ticket sales — which now total 42% of all sales — providing our passengers with convenient access to Amtrak.com is a priority," said Kathleen Gordon, Senior Director E-Commerce for Amtrak, in a statement. "Launching our Amtrak.mobi site ensures that we are able to reach the greatest number of passengers because our .mobi domain is accessible from practically any web- enabled phone and PDA."

The smartphone reseller SellCell has released a new report tracking the value depreciation of the leading phone models on the market, which sees Apple's iPhone 13 come out on top by a significant margin.

SellCell's report compares a range of models of the iPhone 13 (including the Mini, Pro, and Pro Max editions) to Google's Pixel 6/Pro and Samsung's Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. Its methodology involved the analysis of sales data for each smartphone range, considering the typical trade-in value based on units in both "good" and "like-new" conditions.

Apple to offer the iPhone XR as a loaner phone during lengthier repairs

Apple discontinued the iPhone XR after the launch of the latest iPhone 13 series, which is understandable given that it's a three-year-old phone. The smartphone had been the go-to budget iPhone since 2018, and it is still a competitive device in 2021, according to Digital Trends writer Michael Allison, who just spent a week testing a refurbished one.

Now, Apple is offering it as a loaner smartphone while it repairs your broken iPhone, according to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, which states that the iPhone XR will be offered as a loaner starting November 4. This won't be a universal program, though. Only Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers will be able to offer the iPhone XR as a loaner device to consumers during lengthier repairs in the U.S. and other regions.
