Apple allows porn, Playboy coming to iPad

playboy-magazine-pamela-andersonSophisticates across the world, you may rejoice. One of America’s classiest magazines, Playboy, will soon bare it all on the iPad, says Hugh Hefner, founder of the magazine. Every issue of the magazine, from 1953 to 2011, will be available and uncensored on the iPad in March, Hefner said in a series of tweets yesterday.

The news is an interesting reversal for Apple, which has previously sought to keep pornographic material off of its App Store. Last April, CEO Steve Jobs bluntly stated that if people want porn, they can go to Android. “….we do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone,” said Jobs. “Folks who want porn can buy and Android phone…You know, there’s a porn store for Android. You can download nothing but porn. You can download porn, your kids can download porn. That’s a place we don’t want to go – so we’re not going to go there.”

Even Playboy’s official iPhone app has no full frontal nudity, which makes us wonder how Playboy made this deal. Apple must be eager to boost its syndicated content on the iPad. The hardware maker is also working with News Corp. to launch an iPad-only daily newspaper called The Daily, though the launch was recently delayed.

Some would argue that Playboy is not considered pornographic, but that is another debate for another time. Apple’s reversal is good for Playboy, which has seen its paper magazine business drop steadily for years now. Recently, Hugh Hefner has made bold moves to buy out all remaining stock in Playboy and privately own the company again. He hopes to expand the reach of the magazine and brand through new opportunities.

UPDATE 6:09 pm PST: Forbes investigated and found that Mr. Hefner may be confused. A Web version of Playboy will be available uncensored on the device, but the Playboy iPad app will be censored. Full story here.

This $199 refurbished iPad deal is $120 cheaper than a new one
iPad 7th generation hands-on holding in horizontal mode

If you don't mind purchasing refurbished stock that looks like new, Walmart has one of the best iPad deals today. Right now, you can buy the Apple iPad 7th generation for only $200 saving you $49 off the usual price. Of course, it's a refurbished unit but Walmart promises that it works and looks like new so you're not missing out on anything other than spending more cash. It's an older model but thanks to Apple supporting iPads for a long time, you'll be fine. Here's a deeper look at what to expect from your new acquisition.

Why you should buy the Apple iPad
The Apple iPad 7th generation was launched back in 2019. Four years old, it's still reasonably powerful if you don't mind a few concessions in exchange for owning an iPadOS-based tablet. It's powered by the A10 Fusion processor that was seen in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. It can still handle plenty of multitasking so there are no concerns there, although we'd recommend this as a tablet for someone who doesn't mind being a few steps behind technologically. After all, this isn't one of the best tablets anymore, but it's ideal for entertainment purposes.

It offers everything you could need from a simple tablet and a few extras that make it well worth the price. On the surface is its delightful 10.2-inch Retina display with True Tone support. That means that imagery looks great at all times with the iPad being the ideal device for streaming content or browsing the internet in style. Its stereo speakers certainly help ensure that this is a great option if you love to catch up with shows on Netflix while on the move.
