Apple has sent out invitations to an event on October 22, which will be held in San Francisco. The date corresponds to a recent rumor, and also coincides with what’s expected to be a product-packed event for Nokia – where a Lumia tablet could be on the menu – plus the release of Microsoft’s new Surface tablets. Do you see a theme? That’s right, Apple probably wants to tell us all about its new iPad tablets, so we forget about any running Windows.

At least, that’s the theory, as we won’t know for sure what Apple will announce until the event begins, and the invitation gives anything away. It’s covered in iOS 7 colored apple leaves with the words, “We still have a lot to cover,” beneath them. As we’ve recently seen the announcement of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, we’re sure Apple’s done with new smartphones for the year, leaving the iPad and Mac ranges to talk about.

We’re expecting a slimmer fifth-generation iPad to be the main announcement of the day, perhaps equipped with the iPhone 5S’s fingerprint scanner, closely followed by the iPad Mini 2, which could come with a Retina resolution display. Joining the updated iPads could be new MacBooks, more news about the Mac Pro, and the latest on OS X Mavericks, the latter two of which were revealed during WWDC in June.

So is that it? Well, you never know with Apple, as we could see a new Apple TV, or even hear about the continually rumored Apple iWatch. Will we get a plastic covered, colorful iPad, or one which shares the iPhone’s gold color? All these questions will be answered on the day, but if you want to read about all the latest rumors, you can check out our comprehensive roundup here. We’ll be back to bring you all the news as it happens on what’s going to be a very busy October 22.
