Apple Denies iPhones Are Exploding

Shattered Apple iPhoneApple has been very firm in denying that the incidents of supposedly “exploding” iPhones reported recently in Europe are due to defects. It’s been suggested that overheating batteries have been the cause.

In a statement, the company said:

“To date, there are no confirmed battery overheating incidents for iPhone 3GS and the number of reports we are investigating is in the single digits.”

“The iPhones with broken glass that we have analyzed to date show that in all cases the glass cracked due to an external force that was applied to the iPhone.”

However, it’s being taken seriously enough for Herve Novelli, France’s secretary of state for trade and consumer affairs, to meet with Michel Coulomb, head of Apple France. According to AP, Novelli has said he will question Coulomb “causes of the implosion of these devices and eventual measures they could take.”

French consumer watchdog DGCCRF has been investigating the complaints, and the EU has used its Rapex for dangerous products to alert member countries to the problem.

Apple Watch getting FaceTime caller notification Nadeem Sarwar / Digital Trends

A few days ago, I bravely admitted to my colleagues that I rely on an Android tablet for my daily work. “Nadeem, has anyone told you about PCs,” one of my editors replied. “Good god, man, who hurt you?” remarked another senior editor. They’re not wrong, while I remain as shameless as ever in my experimental preference for work machines.

The latest iPad Air just got a major discount at Amazon
The iPad Air attached to the Magic Keyboard.

If you're thinking about buying a new iPad, you're in luck because Amazon has slashed the price of the fifth-generation Apple iPad Air. The 64GB, Wi-Fi model, originally priced at $599, is on sale with a $40 discount, and you'll get an additional $59 off at checkout so you'll only have to pay $500. That's equivalent to total savings of $99 for the latest version of the iPad Air, but you'll need to hurry with your purchase if you want it because as one of the top tablet deals right now, we're not expecting stocks to last long.

Why you should buy the 2022 Apple iPad Air
The 2022 Apple iPad Air sits on top of our list of the best tablets, and it all begins with the powerful performance provided by Apple's M1 chip. This is the same processor in the 2020 Apple MacBook Air and the 2021 Apple iPad Pro, so there's nothing you can do that will slow down the tablet -- including multitasking between several apps and playing graphics-heavy video games. This speed, combined with Apple's iPadOS 16, makes the tablet a potential laptop replacement, especially if you also invest in the Magic Keyboard and the second-generation Apple Pencil as additional input options.
