Apple announces the Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch SE

Apple announced the new Apple Watch Series 6 and a cheaper Apple Watch SE during its event on Tuesday.

The Apple Watch Series 6 will cost $399 while the Apple Watch SE will start at $279. Both are available starting Friday, September 18.

The Apple Watch Series 6 includes new features like measuring blood oxygen levels directly through the watch. Rumors have been swirling around for a while about what Apple had planned for the new Apple Watch.

The key features of the Apple Watch Series 6 include a major focus on health. Some of these include a blood oxygen level sensor that uses red infrared light to measure your blood oxygen in 15 seconds. The sensor will even record your oxygen levels while you sleep. There is also altimeter to measure elevation change for those who hike.

Other features include new watch faces like an Animoji watch face, and a screen that is 2.5 times brighter outside when your wrist is down.

Apple Watch Series 6 also includes family setup where kids can get their own numbers for their Apple Watch. Parents can specify which contacts kids can communicate with when using messages and more and set up automatic location notifications.

The watch comes in blue, gold, graphite, and a new red color. There is also a new “stretchable loop” band. There is no more USB power adapter in the Apple Watch Series 6, which Apple says will eliminate the carbon equivalent of over 50,000 cars on the road per year.

The Apple Watch SE is essentially the Apple Watch Series 3 replacement with features like fall detection, compass and always-on altimeter, a swimproof chassis, and sleep tracking. The watch uses the S5 chip, which Apple says allows for up to two times better performance than the Series 3 model.

The Apple Watch Ultra’s Action button should be better than this
Apple Watch Ultra being worn showing off the Action Button.

When Apple announced the Apple Watch Ultra last September, I was excited about it. It wasn’t something that I needed at the time, but I loved that it’s pretty much the first big change for the Apple Watch product as a whole since the Apple Watch Series 5. The design of the Ultra is completely different from the Apple Watch Series 8, and — of course — it has the Action button.

Oh, the Action button. Aside from the Digital Crown and side button, the Apple Watch Ultra has a unique Action button, accented in a bright orange, that lets you quickly launch an action — such as starting a workout, opening the Workouts app, using the Apple Watch Ultra as a flashlight, launching a shortcut, and more. People love the Action button, plenty of them have given it praise, and I thought it was one of the cooler features of the Apple Watch Ultra.

iPhone 14 Pro Max against a red background.

If you own an Apple product — be in the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or a Mac — you should update it immediately. Why? Apple has begun rolling out updates to all of its devices with fixes for a serious security vulnerability.

The security vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-32434, and it has to do with the kernel privileges of Apple devices. Per Apple's website, the vulnerability allows third-party apps to "execute arbitrary code." In other words, if a bad actor knows how to exploit this vulnerability, they could potentially gain access to your Apple device and wreck havoc.

Leaked marketing image of Galaxy Watch 6 in beige

Editor's note: The leaked marketing images of the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic mentioned in this article have since been removed. They've been replaced with images of previous Galaxy Watch models. Said leaked marketing images can still be found elsewhere online. The original story is as follows.

The first purported marketing images of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series have appeared online, and it looks like a bittersweet concoction. The renders come courtesy of the ever-reliable Roland Quandt at Winfuture, who recently leaked details of the upcoming Samsung foldables as well.,
