Just in the past year, we’ve seen great inexpensive smartphones, such as the Moto G 2015, Asus ZenFone 2, and the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3, hit physical and virtual store shelves with aplomb. However, these phones still pose issues for those with extremely tight budgets. Enter the recently-announced Coolpad Rogue, which looks to solve that issue.
Equipped with a 4-inch, 800 x 480 resolution display, the Coolpad Rogue is powered by a 1.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor paired with 1GB of RAM. 4GB of internal storage is all you’ll get, though the Micro SD card slot allows for an additional 32GB of storage.
Around front lies a 0.3-megapixel camera, while a 2-megapixel camera sits in the back of the phone. Inside, the Coolpad Rogue runs a customized version of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
What really sets the Rogue apart from the rest is its $50 price, a price tag that makes the phone more than a reasonable option for those looking to get their kids, or their eldest family members, their first smartphone. All of a sudden, the somewhat meager specifications don’t mean nearly as much when you consider the $50 you’ll pay for the phone.
For T-Mobile, not only does the Rogue represent the first phone from Coolpad to hit T-Mobile shelves, it’s the only phone as of this writing to be offered at such a low price point. The closest any phone currently offered by T-Mobile comes to the Rogue in terms of pricing is the Samsung Galaxy Light, which was released last February and is currently available for $79.20. The only advantage the Galaxy Light has over the Rogue is its rear camera, though it’s not enough to balance out the former’s two-year-old software.
If you’re intrigued by the Rogue and want to pick one up for yourself or someone else, it’ll be available starting September 30 online and through T-Mobile stores.
