10 hot (and protective) Amazon Fire Phone cases and covers

Can Amazon ignite the crowded smartphone market and blaze a path to success? Its first phone release is something of a mixed bag. You can check out our Amazon Fire Phone review to find out what we think. With a 4.7-inch screen and a sheet of black glass on the back, this is a smartphone in need of a decent case or cover. Here are the best Fire Phone cases we’ve discovered so far.

Speck CandyShell Grip Case ($35)

Dual layer protection safeguards against damage from drops and bumps, but this combination of soft rubber and hard plastic comes in a single piece. The fit is perfect, as you might expect for a case with “Made for Amazon” certification. The rubber breaks through on the back to create an eye-catching pattern and add valuable grip, especially if you happen to be a butter fingers. There’s a lip on the front to protect the screen if the phone lands face down, and there are rubbery covers for the buttons.

Incipio Feather Case ($25)

Minimalism is the name of the game for the Feather case. It’s a snap-on polycarbonate case that maintains a svelte profile, adding very little bulk. The cut-outs are precise (this case also got “Made for Amazon” certification). A soft-touch coating makes it comfortable to hold and adds a little extra grip. You can choose from four colors: cyan, grey, pink, or black. It will certainly stop the back from picking up scratches, but this isn’t a rugged case so it’s hard to say how good drop protection will be.

Amazon Leather Case ($35)

Entering the case market for itself, Amazon is offering this slim, real leather case in black or cayenne (we’d call it red). This looks like style over substance. It fits like a glove with precision cut-outs for ports, buttons and camera. It has a premium look and feel. If you combine this with a screen protector then it will certainly keep your Fire Phone scratch-free, but we honestly can’t see it delivering the phone from doom in the event of a nasty fall.

Amazon Polyurethane Case ($30)

This is exactly the same as the leather case except it’s made from polyurethane instead. The fact it isn’t real leather only shaves $5 off the price, which seems a bit stingy. It is available in a wider choice of colors including black, red, yellow, blue, and purple. It’s a rigid case that fits well and looks pretty good, but we can’t help but worry that there’s no protection for the screen at all.

Spigen Ultra Hybrid Case ($13)

Your Fire Phone’s design really shines through with this case because it has a transparent polycarbonate back panel. This is combined with a malleable TPU bumper that has a raised lip front and back to prevent scratches, and air pockets in the corners to absorb drop impact. It also comes with a screen protector, which requires careful fitting. The bumper comes in a choice of four colors: black, gunmetal (grey), metal slate (dark blue), and mint (light green).

Diztronic TPU Case ($10)

When you want a no-frills TPU case at a reasonable price Diztronic can be relied upon to provide one. This is a thin, basic case with button covers and cut-outs for the camera and ports. There’s a slight lip on the front to protect the screen and that’s about it. You can get it in mint turquoise, black, dark blue, or pink glitterflex. The first three are all matte finish, but the pink one is slightly translucent and is infused with silver glitter.

Supcase Unicorn Beetle Case ($15)

This case has an angular, industrial look that’s sure to appeal to some people. The main case has a flexible TPU bumper and a hard polycarbonate shell, then there’s a front cover with a built-in screen protector. Covers protect the buttons and the ports and there’s a distinctive cut-out for the camera. It should offer decent protection, but it might not be the most comfortable case to use. The black, blue and black, and white grey varieties seem to be cheaper than the grey and pink pictured.

Bear Motion Case ($5)

Here’s another really basic, slim, minimalist case for the Fire Phone. It’s a hard snap-on case made of tough polycarbonate. It has an interesting textured finish that feels like hard rubber and adds some grip to reduce your risk of dropping it. The cut-outs are large so you have unfettered access to the ports and buttons. You can get it in blue, grey, green, pink, or black. It will only provide very basic protection, but that’s reflected in the low price tag.

iBlason Dual Layer Holster Case ($15)

It’s chunky and it’s not going to win any beauty contests, but this case is a good value. You’ve got a soft silicone inner layer with reinforced corners and a hard polycarbonate shell that sits around the outside and encompasses a handy kickstand. On top of that, you get a holster with a locking belt clip that can rotate 180 degrees. It’s a practical choice and it comes in black, red and black, or blue and black.

LK Wallet Case ($11)

You can get this fake leather wallet case in a choice of six colors, but none looks better than the dark brown variety. The phone sits in a hard plastic cradle and it’s wrapped in polyurethane. The inside cover has three pockets for credit cards and ID. It can also fold back to double up as a landscape stand for viewing movies. You get a basic screen protector with it, but it’s cheap and not recommended. The fit is also a bit suspect as the cradle partially covers the headphone jack, so don’t order this if you plan on using your headphones.

We’ve reached the dying embers for Fire Phone cases right now, but we’ll poke this back into life with some new entries soon.
