Best Buy offers free iPhone 3GS with contract, Friday only

best buyRumors started swirling on Thursday that the Best Buy will be offering the iPhone 3GS for free along with a two-year AT&T contract Friday, and now the electronics retailer  has just confirmed the news via Twitter.

Just a week ago, Best Buy announced that it would have “free” smartphones available (with a two-year contract) through the month of December. Still, Apple products are notorious for not going on sale, so it’s a fairly surprising deal. Regularly, the iPhone 3GS is $499.99 on its own and $99.99 with a new two-year contract.

While Best Buy has yet to confirm any details, rumors so far make this seem like the typical “free phone” situation. The hardware is free, but you’re committing yourself to a two-year contract with AT&T.  Boy Genius Report says that the offer extends to new customers as well as those who want to add additional lines to their plan or qualify for upgrades. The site also claims that sources revealed all Best Buy stores “have inventory levels to support the promotion.” And to sweeten the deal, it’s an instant offer, so you don’t have to front the money prior to sending in the rebate. As always, be sure to read and re-read the fine print before signing anything.

Cult of Mac has a little more info on any attached strings, reporting that the deal only extends through tomorrow and Best Buy will allow only one per customer. If all this turns out to be true tomorrow, could it be a sign that Apple and Apple retailers will be discounting its mobile devices in the future?

How to fast charge your iPhone
iPhone 12 Mini with charger

While they may not be some of the longest-lasting smartphones on the market, modern iPhones boast more than respectable battery life that should be able to get you through an entire day's use without breaking too much of a sweat. Of course, that assumes a lot of things — including a battery that's still relatively new and in good health, plus a usage pattern that doesn't include all-day streaming or gaming.

But for some people, overnight charging isn't going to cut it, and you'll want to get your battery topped up again as quickly as you can so you can get back in action. Thankfully, every iPhone released in the past six years supports much faster charging, but the downside is that with very few exceptions, Apple has never supplied you with the right adapter to get the best possible charging speeds from your iPhone.
