Because battery technology research isn’t advancing as quickly as some people might like it to, manufacturers such as Motorola and Oukitel opt to stuff as much battery inside of some of their phones as possible. Enter Blu, which has done just that with its latest pair of smartphones, the Studio Energy 2 and the Energy X.
As their names imply, battery size is the name of the game, with the Studio Energy 2 equipped with a huge 5,000mAh battery and the Energy X equipped with a smaller, yet still big, 4,000mAh model. With such large battery packs, one would expect these handsets to deliver stellar battery life, and the reported 30 days of standby time and up to 3 days of “standard usage” certainly seem like the mileage you would get.
Moving on to other internals, the Studio Energy 2 is powered by a 64-bit, quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek 6735 processor, which is paired with 1.5GB of RAM. Up front sits a 5-inch, 1,280 x 720 resolution Super AMOLED display, so it should deliver the deep blacks and impressive contrast ratio that such panels are known for. Sitting off-center and above the display is a 5-megapixel camera, while an 8-megapixel shooter occupies the back. Finally, you’ll get 16GB of internal storage, though it’s expandable through the Micro SD card slot.
As for the Energy X, it packs the same resolution display, but swaps out the Super AMOLED panel found on the Studio Energy 2 for a more traditional IPS LCD panel. The processor is clocked at the same 1.3GHz, though it’s a 32-bit MediaTek 6580, with the RAM knocked down a bit to 1GB. The Energy X retains the 8-megapixel rear camera found on the Studio Energy 2, though the front-facing shooter steps down to 2 megapixels. Finally, internal storage gets cut in half, though it’s also expandable through the Micro SD card slot.
Given its slightly weaker specifications, it’s no surprise that the Energy X is the budget offering of the two smartphones, coming in at $109. However, at $179, the Studio Energy 2 isn’t exactly in wallet-bleeding territory, either. Both handsets are currently available through Amazon, with the Studio Energy 2 offered in Midnight Grey and Ceramic White with Rose Gold. The Energy X, meanwhile, is offered in Midnight Grey and Luxury Gold.
