Duke Nukem 3D headed to Android

Prepare Yourself for Total Meltdown: Tapjoy and MachineWorks NorthWest Bring Duke Nukem 3D to Android

Legendary first-person shooter game launched as part of the Tapjoy Android Fund

San Francisco, CA – October 12, 2011 – Tapjoy, Inc. (www.tapjoy.com), a leading independent mobile application network, announced today that it has partnered with MachineWorks NorthWest (www.machineworksnorthwest.com) to bring the iconic video game Duke Nukem 3D to the Android Market. MachineWorks NorthWest partnered with Tapjoy as part of the Tapjoy Android Fund, designed to bring top-quality mobile games and applications to the Android platform.

Duke Nukem burst onto the scene in 1991 as the wise-cracking, cigar-chomping, woman-loving tough guy who must save the Earth from invading aliens, and does so with all the irreverence and hyper-masculinity of a Hollywood action hero. The third installment in the highly acclaimed Duke Nukem series, Duke Nukem 3D is a first-person shooter game set in Los Angeles “sometime in the early 21stcentury” in which players use increasingly sophisticated weapons in order to defeat aliens and mutated humans attempting to take over the world. The launch of Duke Nukem 3D in the Android Market marks the first time any of the Duke Nukem titles are available on Android devices.

“Duke Nukem is a legend in his own time, and he’d be the first person to tell you that,” said Rob Carroll, Tapjoy’s Director of Publishing for Tapjoy. “MachineWorks NorthWest has done a great job of bringing the brash, trash-talking character and all his ass-kicking glory to the mobile environment, and we are thrilled to be working with AAA studios like MachineWorks to help bring games of this caliber to Android.”

Tapjoy provided MachineWorks Northwest with development support to help port Duke Nukem 3D from iOS to Android. Duke Nukem 3D is currently being promoted through Tapjoy’s performance-based ad network to improve discovery of the game and increase new user acquisition.

“Tapjoy was the ideal partner to help us launch Duke Nukem 3D on Android,” said Andreas Vahsen, CEO and Founder at MachineWorks NorthWest. “The resources they provided were invaluable, but even more important was the level of PR expertise and inside knowledge they brought to the partnership. We wouldn’t have accomplished this launch nearly as fast or as successfully without their help.”

Duke Nukem 3D will be available very soon from any Android smartphone or tablet device running version 2.1 and up through the Android Market, or online at http://www.machineworksnorthwest.com.

How the Huawei Watch GT 3 shows what an Apple Watch for Android would be like
Huawei Watch GT 3 on wrist.

Unless you own an iPhone, you can’t use the Apple Watch, because there’s no way to connect it to a smartphone running anything other than iOS. But what if Apple suddenly made it possible for Android phones to connect to an Apple Watch? Having used the Huawei Watch GT 3 recently, I’ve been given a glimpse into what that may be like, as I came to terms with using the Huawei smartwatch, which definitely prioritizes Huawei phone ownership, with a non-Huawei smartphone.
Understanding the Watch GT 3
The Watch GT 3’s software is HarmonyOS 2.1, Huawei’s own platform that’s suitable for a wide range of connected devices, which links with Huawei’s Health app on your phone. This is needed to sync and update the Watch, and also acts as the hub for all your health and activity data collected by the smartwatch.

When you start the watch for the first time, it tells you to download Huawei Health, which is available through Google Play and the App Store, so that’s how most who don’t own a Huawei phone will try to obtain it. Except the Huawei Health app on Google Play doesn’t support the Watch GT 3, and you are forced to then download the Huawei App Gallery from outside Google Play to update the app to the latest version.

Now, as a part of the year-end holiday season, they will soon reveal their latest smartwatch. The Huawei Watch D launches on December 23.As a part of their latest launch event, the company would unveil the Huawei P50 Pocket, which goes by the name of "Huawei Mate V" in China. High-resolution renders of the official product have now been revealed. The watch has an all-black look with a smooth finish, along with a broad-rectangular watch face. It would also have dedicated buttons for health as well as home screen functions. Sources have suggested that the wearable would be equipped with a medical-grade ECG (Electrocardiogram), which detects a person's heart rhythms for any irregularities. What sets this product apart from regular smartwatches is that it is equipped with a blood pressure monitoring feature. GSM Arena has shared a leaked user guide, which explains how blood pressure can be checked using the device. According to the leaked video, a separate strap needs to be attached to the inside of the watch band to take a blood pressure measurement. The Watch D would have 32MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It is expected to be priced at CNY 2,998 ($470), which is decent given some of its unique features. While the December launch would be limited to China, it could be presented to the rest of the world by the first quarter of 2022. The product could give stiff competition to the Samsung Watch 3, which also has blood-pressure measurement capability.

Samsung’s Android 12 and One UI 4 update comes to the Galaxy Z Flip and Fold 3
One UI 4 and Android 12.

Samsung has made Android 12 and One UI 4 available to the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 just weeks after releasing the update to the Samsung Galaxy S21 family. The update has dropped first in the company's native Korea, but will likely be making a worldwide rollout in the next week or so.

As with the S21's release that came last month, One UI 4 and Android 12 bring enhanced customization and security features to Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 owners. These include a new feature that themes your phone with the color of your wallpaper, customizable emoji, and more. Privacy wise, OneUI 4 owners will now see indicators when their cameras or microphones are in use, preventing apps from accessing those clandestinely.
