Online shopping offers consumers the best lay of the land to compare prices, but it doesn’t do much good when you’re stuck in a retail store without Internet access, wondering if the product in front of you is actually a good buy. Frucall wants to change that with the latest version of its price-checking service for mobile phones, which it announced on Monday.
Originally, Frucall only offered a toll-free number for consumers to call, enter barcodes, and hear online prices read back to them over the phone. The latest version of Frucall will include the ability to receive prices through SMS text messages or mWeb, a streamlined version of Frucall’s Web site for web-enabled phones.
"Frucall’s new features, along with many additional system enhancements, now give consumers unequalled access to online pricing information and purchasing options on their mobile phones while they are out shopping," said Frucall CEO Dr. Behzad Nadji, in a statement.
The service is supported by targeted advertisements, making it completely free to use. Consumers do, however, need to register for Frucall’s text-message price comparisons before they will be able to use them.
