Google Brings Nexus One To AT&T, Canada

When Google launched its Nexus One phone back in January, it offered two versions: a carrier-subsidized version that worked with T-Mobile and an unlocked version that could accommodate SIM cards from other carriers. Unless, like AT&T, those carriers used different frequencies for their 3G networks. Well, now that problem is solved: Google is now offering a version of the Nexus One that works with AT&T’s 3G network, as well as Rogers Wireless in Canada. The new version is available as an unlocked device without a service plan; users will need to bring their own SIM card and service to the phone. And, as before, the unlocked Nexus One runs $529. In addition, Google will now ship the Nexus One to Canada.

The move may clear the way for more Nexus One sales: although iPhone users are notoriously unhappy with AT&T’s network availability and capacity, it does offer more 3G coverage than T-Mobile. In addition, the ability purchase Nexus Ones that operate on 850/1900/2100 MHz 3G/UMTS bands may appeal to international customers who want to use the Nexus One on other carriers around the world.

Both the T-Mobile and AT&T-compatible versions of the Nexus one use four GSM frequencies (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), so they can offer phone service on most GSM operators around the world.

Google finally fixed the one thing I hated about the Pixel Watch

Google has done the right thing with the Pixel Watch 3, as, for the first time in the smartwatch’s short history, it comes in two different case sizes. Until now, the Pixel Watch has been available in a single size, which bordered on the microscopic and seemingly had more bezel than screen. Now, those with arms wider than a pipe cleaner can confidently buy a Pixel Watch without fear, and giving us more choice is a serious win for Google and the new Pixel Watch.

The Pixel Watch’s minimalist, simple design has never appealed much to me personally. I prefer my watches to make a statement or at least include stylistic elements that make me smile when I look down at my wrist. The Pixel Watch’s smooth, circular case is just too plain, and the bezel around the screen only emphasizes the smartwatch’s tiny pill-like proportions. Once it was on my wrist, it just looked too small, like I’d mistakenly chosen the wrong size but couldn’t be bothered to change it.

At the present moment, Google's Pixel 9 preorder deals are some of the best. For starters, you can get a trade-in value from your old phone equal to up to $760 if it qualifies. Then, get store credit (which can be used on a case, Google earbuds or watches, etc.) between $100 and $350, depending on the version of the Pixel 9 you buy. (Note that this store credit deal will continue for a short while after the pre-order is over, but is definitely a favor to the early purchase crowd.) Finally, buying a Pixel 9 phone from Google and signing up with Google Fi Wireless, their cellular plan, and get an extra $500 back on your phone bill over the next two years. Google also mentions that you'll receive a free year of Google's AI service, Gemini Advanced, for a full year with the purchase of the phone, a $239 value, but a look at the fine print shows this offer will be in effect until well into 2025 and, as such, isn't exactly a pre-order deal.
