Google Looks To Voice Search For Mobile

Speaking at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, Vic Gundotra, Google’s VP of engineering, said that voice search could well be the future for mobiles, and that the company is constantly making great improvements in its offering.

"We believe voice search is a new form of search and that it is core to our business."

According to the BBC, he acknowledged that the technology is still in its infancy (just last year, for instance, it could only recognize American accents), but that’s it’s constantly improving.

"Look how far we have come. I get the advantage of looking at daily voice queries coming in and it’s amazing. It’s working. It’s reached a tipping point. It’s growing and growing very, very fast and we are thrilled about it."

"It’s one of those technologies we think gets better with usage.”

"We launched it on the iPhone and have seen a 15% jump in accuracy because, as more people use it, we collect more data and our accuracy gets better."

Voice Search became a Google Mobile App for the iPhone last year. It’s also available for the T-Mobile G1 (no surprise there) and now also for the BlackBerry.

The company is also working on a prototype of Gmail for mobiles that uses HTML 5, and plans to offer the Chrome browser for the Mac in future.

Google has already given us an official glimpse at the Pixel 7 series phones via teasers shared at the I/O conference earlier this year. Now, we might have our first real look at the Pixel 7 and its Pro version, and how they stand apart in terms of design and internal hardware.

YouTube channel Unbox Therapy has shared a video that purportedly details prototype units of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro in their black trims. The camera island is more prominent this time around and flaunts a metallic finish, which is a stark departure from the subdued black glass strip on the Pixel 6 duo. The corners also appear to be more rounded, and similar is the case with the rear glass panel.

Google Wallet was announced at Google I/O 2022 earlier this year, and now it's finally starting to roll out to the public. Although there was plenty of initial confusion about how the app would differ from G Pay, Google's other wallet-esque app, the differences have finally become clear as Android users are able to compare and contrast the two.

Because Wallet doesn't have the plethora of features included in G Pay, it's a little bare-bones at the moment. But that's kind of the point. It's a much more streamlined way to access credit cards and the like, but after logging in for the first time and putting information in, there's not much else to it. Take a look:
