If you’re UK based and interested in getting your hands on Google’s refreshed Nexus 7 tablet, the good news is you don’t have too long to wait.

Asus, the manufacturer of the updated device, has confirmed to Pocket-lint the Wi-Fi version of the new tablet will start selling on August 28. The 4G version could follow several weeks later. Interested consumers will be able to pick up the tablet from retailers such as Currys and PC World, or purchase it online from the Google Play store. There’s no word yet on when it’ll launch in other European markets.

The 16GB Wi-Fi-only model comes with a £199.99 price tag, while the 32GB version will sell for £239.99. It’s a bit of a jump from the old prices (£159.99 and £199.99), but Google obviously feel its improved specs will be enough to get consumers digging into their wallets.

Bringing the new Android tablet to the UK market before Apple rolls out a new version of the Mini, possibly this fall, is obviously a good move by Google, giving it a decent head start as we move toward the start of the all-important holiday season.

Decent bit of kit

DT’s reviewers gave the new Nexus 7, which launched in the US a couple of weeks ago, an admirable 90 percent rating, praising it for its thinner and lighter design, superb full HD screen, speedy Android 4.3 OS, and powerful processor. Its new 5-megapixel rear camera, on the other hand, is a serious letdown.

“We recommend it above competitors like the Kindle Fire and would have a tough time choosing between it and the iPad Mini,” the review concluded. “If you have $100 to burn, the $330 iPad Mini may arguably be a better tablet, but its screen sucks compared to the $230 Nexus 7.” Of course, that should change with the launch of the next Mini.

The Google app on your Android phone is getting a helpful new feature
Google app on Android beta showing Notifications.

The Google app for Android phones is getting a helpful new feature to make search even better. The latest beta has a dedicated "Notifications" feed in its bottom bar. The feature was first introduced on the mobile version of Google for Android earlier this year. The app feature was first noticed by 9to5Google.

The app now includes a Notifications option at the bottom, next to Discover, Search, and Saved items. The Notifications section displays a continuous list of alerts from Google Search, weather conditions, flight information, sports scores, movies and TV shows, and more. The notifications are grouped under “Today” and “Earlier." This feature should prove handy if you miss a notification from the Google app, as it provides a more focused view than Android's system-level history.
