Groupon makes it easier for merchants track coupons, gain analytics

groupon merchant app

“The Merchant App makes it dead simple for merchants to track their Groupons, which is especially helpful for businesses that have sold thousands of Groupons or span multiple locations,” said Andrew Mason, founder and chief executive officer of Groupon. “We’ve worked closely with our merchants, and their feedback has shaped a robust arsenal of services that we’re excited to roll out.”

The app greatly simplifies Groupon processing by enabling staff to redeem Groupon with an Android phone, iPod Touch and iPhone. Purchase data is then immediately transmitted to the existing merchant interface on Groupon.com, allowing business owners to track redemption and customer check amount in real time. For small businesses that are dealing with 1000’s of coupon redemptions, this app is a lifesaver.

In coming months, Groupon will ship Android phones and iPod Touches with the app preloaded to thousands of businesses as part of their featured promotion on the popular site.

“The Merchant App has been a powerful tool to make the overall redemption process smarter,” said Paul Kavouksorian of Paul K restaurant in San Francisco, which has been testing the iPhone app for several weeks. “My staff loves it. It’s simple to use and eliminates errors in processing vouchers that have been redeemed. We’d definitely recommend this app to other Groupon clients.”

Groupon is also working on rolling out a merchant analytics dashboard and other communications tools to help businesses stay in touch with their new Groupon customers.

Groupon has experienced explosive growth over the past two years and has keenly cashed in on bringing deals to the web in a new and innovative way.

I finally found an Android phone that makes me want to ditch my iPhone
Someone holding the Motorola Edge Plus 2023.

The iPhone 14 Pro is an incredible smartphone. It's been my phone of choice for the last few months — and there's very little I dislike about it. The size is perfect, it's ridiculously fast, the display looks great ... I could go on and on. Simply put, it's a phone that's done everything I've asked of it, and it's given me very little reason to look for a new go-to smartphone.

But that's starting to change. I recently wrapped up my review of the Motorola Edge Plus (2023), and the more I sit back and reflect on my time with the Android phone, I've started to realize something. I barely touched my iPhone while reviewing the Edge Plus, and even now that the review is published, I still find myself grabbing for the Motorola handset over the iPhone.

I found a huge problem with the new ChatGPT iPhone app
ChatGPT app running on an iPhone.

Seemingly out of nowhere, OpenAI released its official ChatGPT iOS app this week. Available for both iPhones and iPads, the free app allows you to use the popular AI chatbot in a much simpler, easier way than ever before. No more messing with the mobile website or trying to fiddle with uncertain third-party apps — just download the official ChatGPT application, and you're good to go.

It's a big step forward to make ChatGPT more accessible and to get it into the hands of more people. Naturally, I was curious to test it out for myself. I've been using the ChatGPT iPhone app to ask the chatbot various questions, and while the whole thing works just like you'd expect, there's one big, glaring problem that makes me never want to touch the app again.
