HP announces Pivot magazine for the TouchPad

The TouchPad isn’t out yet, but we now know it already has at least one magazine. Yesterday, HP announced Pivot, a new TouchPad-specific publication that will help users discover apps in the WebOS App Catalog based on their interests, lifestyles, and recommendations by developers. Every month, the new Official WebOS app publication will have new editorials, columns, feature stories, and reviews.

“Pivot brings app discovery to a new level for customers and developers alike,” said Richard Kerris, vice president, webOS Worldwide Developer Relations, HP. “We want our partners to experience webOS as the growing platform of opportunity, and we’re investing in new ways to help market their applications on our platform.”

Much like Nintendo Power, The Official PlayStation Magazine, and other publications funded by a company to exclusively promote content on that company’s platform, Pivot could become a good resource for those who choose HP’s platform as long as the new publication maintains journalistic standards. We also hope that there’s a web version of the publication for those who don’t yet have a TouchPad.

The HP TouchPad is currently available for preorder and will hit U.S. shelves July 15 starting at $499.

Discolored line on your new Kindle? You aren’t alone

The new Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is the first full-color e-reader, and a lot of bookworms couldn't wait to get their hands on it. Sadly, many people are reporting the display has a discolored yellow area at the bottom of the screen. The problem is so widespread that the Kindle Colorsoft dropped to an average review rating of 2.6 out of 5, although it does remain the bestselling e-book reader at the moment.

The cause of the discoloration isn't clear. Some users report that it only happens when using the edge lighting feature on the Kindle, while others say it appeared after a software update. Either way, the yellowing is a problem, especially on a device that Amazon has marketed as being great for comics and graphic novel fans. It's hard to enjoy the colorwork in a comic when it's distorted.
