HTC may have not just one, but two new tablets to launch in June

HTC has already come out with some exciting devices this year, from the One M9 and a new wearable, to the amazing HTC Vibe virtual reality headset. However, rumors suggest it’s not done yet, and there’s talk of at least one new tablet too. Here’s what we think we know so far.

Updated on 05-14-2015 by Malarie Gokey: Added news that HTC’s M7 tablet could launch as early as June.

Rumors of two very different tablets

Late last year, a number of HTC executives, including CFO Chang Chia-lin and North Asia president Jack Tong, stated that HTC will launch its own, self-branded tablet in 2015. The announcement came shortly after the launch of the Nexus 9, which was extremely well received among customers and reviewers alike.

Later on, noted leaker Upleaks stated on Twitter that an HTC tablet called the M7 could launch in June, but added that it “seems to be a low-end tablet.” It’s unclear if the tablet mentioned by Upleaks is the same as the one we’ve heard about in previous leaks, though that tablet was rumored to have undoubtedly high-end specs.

Possible specs detail a high-end tablet

HTC’s first own-branded tablet in several years will reportedly sport an 8.9-inch screen with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,530 pixels, hints GizmoChina. The tablet may be powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Allwinner H8 CPU along with 2GB of RAM, and feature a PowerVR SGX544 GPU for graphics. Like most tablets, it will likely come in 16 and 32GB storage options, though it’s unknown whether it will have a MicroSD card slot for expansion or not. A surprisingly high-resolution 16-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel shooter on the front, for selfies and video calls.

Although next to nothing is known about its design, a report from China hints at a 7.88mm thin body with BoomSound speakers on the front of the device. One questionable leaked picture shows a tablet that basically looks like a large One M9 in tablet form. Additionally, a big 6700mAh battery may be packed inside. The tablet should run Android 5.0 Lollipop, of course, but it will almost certainly have a version of the Sense UI laid on top for good measure.

Release date could come in June

The tablet is said to be coming as early as June for a reasonable price, which should see it compare favorably against the Nexus 9, iPad Air 2, and other high-end tablets. However, for now it’s unclear when HTC will announce the device and where it will be available for purchase.

Nvidia may launch 3 new GPUs, and they’re bad news for AMD
An Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card seen from the side.

In a surprising twist, Nvidia might be releasing not one, but three graphics cards. They all fall under the same RTX 4060 umbrella, although two of them are RTX 4060 Ti models.

This marks a strong entry into the midrange segment for Nvidia, with one of the cards addressing a significant concern -- low VRAM. Should AMD be worried about losing even more business to Team Green?

The OnePlus Pad looks incredible — except for one peculiar thing
OnePlus Pad held in hand.

For years, there has been talk about OnePlus releasing a tablet. That day has finally come, and OnePlus now has the OnePlus Pad, which is officially launching on May 8. I’ve been using one for the past few weeks, and for the most part, the tablet looks great — though the software is a bit lacking.

However, I have some qualms about OnePlus’ decision to place a single, large camera sensor right smack dab in the top middle of a tablet that is designed for horizontal use. How did this not bother whoever came up with it? Maybe I’m using my tablets wrong, but I doubt it.
The OnePlus Pad has a very premium design

The Motorola Edge Plus (2023) may have just killed the Samsung Galaxy S23

Motorola just announced the brand new Motorola Edge Plus (2023) for North America. This is the latest flagship smartphone from Motorola and it packs in incredible power and performance, a triple high-resolution camera system, a huge battery, and blazing-fast charging — all in a beautiful and elegant design. It looks to compete with some of the year's best Android phones, like the Samsung Galaxy S23 and OnePlus 11.

With the Motorola Edge Plus (2023), you’ll have a 6.7-inch pOLED display with incredibly thin bezels, so it’s virtually borderless. The display itself has an anti-fingerprint coating on the front, as well as a velvet antiglare glass inlay on the back. And as the "Edge" name suggests, the edges of the screen are curved along the top, bottom, and left and right sides.
