Samsung brought back the stylus from the dead with the introduction of the first Galaxy Note a few years ago. The Korean giant continued to make new versions of these very popular Note devices while most Android manufacturers watched from the sidelines. Now after all this time, Huawei might be ready to enter the stylus game with its own Galaxy Note 5 competitor.
A report out of Korea says that Huawei has been looking for a stylus supplier. Samsung uses Wacom technology for its S Pen, which is actually incorporated in the display components as well as the S Pen. This type of technology can interpret pressure sensitivity, while a traditional stylus is unable to. Apparently Huawei wanted to use this same technology, but was unable to because of a possible exclusivity agreement between Wacom and Samsung.
According to the report, Huawei has secured another supplier that supposedly can provide a stylus that can compete with Wacom in terms of price and performance. Unfortunately, the name of the company wasn’t revealed.
Also interesting to note is that Huawei has wanted to get into the stylus game for a few years. The Huawei Ascend Mate, which was released back in 2013 with a 6.1-inch display, was originally designed with a stylus in mind. The stylus functionality was obviously scrapped, but the reason why is a mystery.
There is no word on exactly when Huawei might release this Galaxy Note 5 competitor, but fans in Europe are hoping it’s sooner rather than later. The most recent Galaxy Note 5 is only available in the U.S. and Asia.
Huawei might be looking to quickly fill the void that Samsung left behind, or maybe this was the plan all along. Either way, this one is only at the beginning stages of a rumor that might or might not come true. We will keep you posted right here if any new information leaks.
