Apple’s iOS 10 is disconnecting iPhone SE, 6, 6 Plus users from T-Mobile’s network

Apple iOS 10 Beta 1
Update (9/16): On Thursday, T-Mobile announced that Apple had released a patch for the connectivity issue. The carrier’s giving iOS users who held of on iOS 10 the greenlight to upgrade, and instructing those who did to download and install the fix.

Well, iOS 10 is finally here — for most people, that is. T-Mobile customers with the iPhone SE, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus have been warned to steer clear of the new operating system due to a bug that causes the phone to lose connection to the T-Mobile network after updating.

Once the connection has been lost, it can’t be restored until a user powers down their phone and restarts it — which is just a temporary fix. According to T-Mobile’s Neville Ray, Apple is aware of the bug and is working on a fix for it, which should be available in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The bug doesn’t come at the best of times for either company — Apple is obviously hoping to sell as many iPhones as possible, and reports of bugs don’t help that cause. Not only that, but T-Mobile recently launched its One unlimited plan, but if your phone can’t access the T-Mobile network, it can’t use all that extra data, either.

If you have already installed iOS 10 and are experiencing the bug, you can, as mentioned, turn your phone off and then turn it back on again, which is a pretty simple fix. If you haven’t, it might be worth waiting the extra day or two for the new version of iOS 10 to roll out to avoid the hassle of having to deal with spotty network connectivity. If you have installed it, you can also roll back to a previous version of iOS by following the instructions below:

  1. Plug your iPhone into your computer and connect to iTunes. Then, backup all your info. Unplug.
  2. Download a clean copy of iOS 9.3 from ipsw.me. Select your device, model, and the iOS 9.3 firmware. Click to download.
  3. While you’re waiting for that to download, turn off “Find my iPhone” under Settings > iCloud > Find my iPhone. You will need to know your Apple ID and password.
  4. Once the copy of iOS 9.3 is downloaded, open iTunes and plug in your iPhone.
  5. Click where it says “iPhone.” Then, click “Check for updates” while holding the “option” key on Mac or “control” key on Windows. Make sure you hold the key and click simultaneously, as this will bring up options for you to choose from when selecting a build.
  6. You’ll see the file menu. Scroll through until you see the .ipsw file for the fresh iOS 9.3 firmware. Select that file and hit OK.

As mentioned, it’s probably easier to just wait for the update, and you should really only roll back to a previous version of iOS if you know what you’re doing. Still, it’s nice to have the option.

Have an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch? You need to update it right now

If you own an Apple product — be in the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or a Mac — you should update it immediately. Why? Apple has begun rolling out updates to all of its devices with fixes for a serious security vulnerability.

The security vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-32434, and it has to do with the kernel privileges of Apple devices. Per Apple's website, the vulnerability allows third-party apps to "execute arbitrary code." In other words, if a bad actor knows how to exploit this vulnerability, they could potentially gain access to your Apple device and wreck havoc.

Should you buy the iPhone 14 or wait for the iPhone 15?
The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max all lying on a table.

It can be a little tricky to decide which version of the iPhone to get since the current lineup of iPhone 14 models is so impressive — but there's always a new model waiting just around the corner. The iPhone 14 line broke new ground for Apple with the introduction of the Dynamic Island for the Pro models, but with rumors that the entire iPhone 15 line will be fitted with the new feature, many are wondering if they should just wait for them to launch before picking up the latest Apple smartphone.

While the decision of which iPhone to buy rests solely on the shoulders of the buyer, we can certainly help with the decision-making process by listing the facts about each device and how they stack up when compared and contrasted. So far, there are plenty of differences between the iPhone 14 line and what we've heard about what's to come with the iPhone 15, so the choice is definitely a meaningful one. Here's everything you need to know about the differences between the iPhone 14 family and the upcoming iPhone 15 models to help you choose which smartphone to invest in.

The 6 biggest iOS 17 features that Apple stole from Android
iOS 17 logo on an iPhone, Android logo on an Android phone.

Apple made a big splash at WWDC 2023 this year, with the big headline announcement being the Vision Pro augmented reality headset. But we also got a glimpse of what’s to come with iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS 14 Sonoma.

Though iOS 17 appears to be more of a quiet release this year that focuses on refinement and quality-of-life improvements, I have mixed feelings overall. To be honest, I was a little underwhelmed with the iOS 17 announcement based on what was actually shown off on stage, but there are some very cool features that Apple didn’t make a big deal out of (when it should have).
