Next-generation iPad Mini and 9th-gen iPad tipped before iPhone 13 launch

We’re hearing last-minute hints and rumors about new iPad models ahead of Apple’s “California Streaming” event, which is already expected to see the release of the iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 7, AirPods 3, and potentially some accessories later today. The rumors concern a new iPad Mini and 9th-generation iPad, which we weren’t expecting to see at this event. There was earlier word that these would be launched alongside a new MacBook in a separate event in October.

Larger iPad Mini

Gizmodo Japan noticed an accessory listing that seems to confirm rumors about the iPad Mini, according to reporting from MacRumors. An Amazon listing for an Elecom glass screen protector has since been removed, but the protector was for an 8.38-inch “small” iPad. This corroborates display analyst Ross Young’s claim that the iPad mini 6 would have an 8.3-inch display. The size difference is due to a design change that mimics the iPad Air, with narrower bezels and no Home button.

Ninth-generation iPad

MacRumors also reported on rumors shared by Weibo account @PandaIsBald, which suggests we may see the ninth generation of Apple’s entry-level iPad during the event. The iPad has been sold out at some stores for weeks. This could be due to chip shortages, but may also be in preparation for the launch of a new iteration of Apple’s most affordable tablet.

Apple event will end speculation

We’ll soon find out if the rumors are true. You can watch “California Streaming” live at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET today, September 14, on Apple TV-compatible devices and YouTube.

Final Cut Pro is coming to the iPad — but there’s a catch
Someone using Final Cut Pro on an iPad.

It's happening. After years of and years of begging Apple to do so, the company is finally bringing its popular Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro editing apps to the iPad.

Apple made the announcement in a press release on May 9, saying that both apps will be available for the iPad beginning May 23. Final Cut Pro will be compatible with any iPad with an M1 chip or newer, while Logic Pro will work with iPads running the A12 Bionic Chip or later.

My dad loves his 13-year-old iPad, and for a very specific reason
A person holding an original iPad, showing the back.

Buying the latest generation of your favorite piece of tech is fun, exciting, and something many of us do each year. But just how necessary is it, and how long can an “old” piece of tech remain at least somewhat useable?

Well, my Dad still uses a 32GB first-generation iPad, not just occasionally, but every day. And it’s not only functional, but it’s also still perfectly capable despite being 13 years old. In fact, the only thing holding it back is the software, which is firmly stuck in the past. However, things are about to change, and a new iPad is on its way. But the situation is probably not going to play out how you may think it will.

9 new Apple products that could launch in 2023
The back of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

As it currently stands, 2023 has already been a busy year for Apple. The company launched a new yellow iPhone 14, brought back the HomePod, and refreshed its Mac lineup with an M2 Mac mini and M2 MacBook Pro. But what else is on the docket? As it turns out, a lot more. From new iPhones, an upgraded Apple Watch, and possibly an AR headset, here are nine products we still expect from Apple in 2023.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro

If there is any Apple product with an upgrade cycle that’s literally like clockwork, it’s the iPhone, which is always out in the fall. This year, we can expect the iPhone 15 lineup to include an iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, it is rumored that the iPhone 15 will have a bigger 6.2-inch display this year, but the rest of the lineup will have the same sizes as before.
